6 days to go... Cancer scare and freaking out a little

I absolutely can not believe how fast the time has gone since I first booked my surgery. It's unreal.

I received a call from my gyn yesterday stating that the last biopsy he did (to make sure I was cancer free) came back much worse than the one he'd done 4 weeks before. He said the cervix needs to come out and that I will need follow up care to make sure that the abnormal cells do not extend beyond the cervix/uterus.

I'm scared. I knew that I had abnormal cells, but did not realize how quickly they spread. Part of me allowed people to dismiss my fears and thought maybe I could back out if I wanted to. But now I am committed and in order to stay (probably) cancer free.

I'm finding people really don't get the emotions this is sending me on. "you'll be fine" just doesn't seem to provide adequate reassurance. While I am so grateful this has been caught early I am so scared that it hasn't.

Wow, what a roller coaster.. I just need to feel like someone understands what I am feeling right now, because I sure am feeling awfully alone in this adventure.

Thanks for the freedom to vent.

(((HUGS))) I'm so sorry you're going through this. That C word is a scary word to hear. Even as a possibility (I was tested to see if that's why my thickened endometrium was that way...and I was nervous enough then!) Good for you for taking care of yourself and fighting to make sure that they get it all! I pray they do and that it never bothers you again.

The wonderful thing about this place is that you aren't alone, and people really do understand what you are going through and how you feel. Prayers going your way.

Re: 6 days to go... Cancer scare and freaking out a little

It helped me to analyze exactly what my pre-op tests showed ... and didn't show. I also talked to my dr's nurse about the results and wrote down what she said so I could refer back to it when I started going "there". It's so hard not to imagine the worst, but it sounds like your doctor is being very proactive and intends to catch anything that might be present early. He will be able to visually inspect everything in your pelvis during the surgery and my doctor also performed "pelvic washings" to check for microscopic cells.

Thank you! Me too! I'm trying desperately to stay positive. I've instructed my body to send every single abnormal cell in my whole body to be removed with my uterus. Here's hoping it listens

Thank you for that. Funny how despite the support, our journey is still just that, our journey.

I know when I questioned the Abdominal incision my surgeon said she prefers that way as to inspect everything thoroughly. I'm a natural worry wart so it's really hard not to go there.. but trying desperately to stay positive and keep my focus on the words there's no cancer and forget the yet part lol

Re: 6 days to go... Cancer scare and freaking out a little

I too know how you feel. I had 3 abnormal pap smears, a LEEP done last March and the lastest biopsy showed agressive pre-cancerous cells. My doctor is doing a Modified Radical Hysterectomy through the daVinci robotic method. I will get to keep my ovaries but she will be taking some of the lymph nodes. She is being very proactive. I am 42 and no longer need my uterus anyway. But it is scary to think something may get missed. Best of luck to you!
