hysterectomy due to fibroid

Hi, I am new here, but pretty determined I want my uterus out. My mother had uterine cancer at age 35 I am 41 my great grandma had ovarian cancer, and my grandpa had colon cancer. I have already had precancer polyps in my colon. I have now been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, plus having multiple fibroids in my uterus. Right before the doctor decided to do surgery I had bleed for a whole month. I begged him to take my uterus but all he agreed to was to do a d and c and a scope of my uterus, but he did end up taking out my left ovary due to cysts. I wake up and he tells me that he should have listened to me and taken my uterus as I still have a 3cm fibroid. He said he would take it next time. I had some relief from my pain for a couple of weeks, but now I am getting the sharp pains and pressure back and constipated. I was told by the nurse at the doctors office when the pain becomes unbearable to call and make an appt. I have an appt. on the 20th this month. I have talked to so many woman that seen to do very well after surgery. I just want everything gone so that I do not get cancer there.

Re: hysterectomy due to fibroid

Similar story. About 3 years ago after constant complaints to DR about heavy bleeding, pain that would wake me in the night ever 3 to 4 hours for 2 weeks every month. Ultrasound revealed an ovarian cyst & fibroid. The DR does D & C after after a scope and says the fibroid should go away since I was late 40's and should be approaching menopause.

I changed DR, the fibroid has grown so he has recommended TAH which I am scheduled for the 22nd. If you are not comfortable with what you hear after your next appt, remember it's your body, consider a second opinion. You are entitled to your concerns.

Best wishes!
