Alternative to Estrogen

OK so I went to the Parmacy to get my perscription filled on Thursday on my way home from the Castle. My Parmacist asked me if there was any history of estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer in my Familly. My answer is Yes. My aunt died a couple of years ago with Estrogen positive Breast Cancer.
Parmacist said not to take the estrogen and they are contacting my doctor for an alternative. He is not available until Monday.
What would my Hyster Sisters suggest if I have a choice?

Re: Alternative to Estrogen

That's interesting - I know I can't take estrogen because I had ER+ DCIS in June, but I didn't know that they would recommend against it based on a family member's history vice your own. I'll be interested to see what others post to your question - There is a forum here which deals with HRT and alternatives to HRT/estrogen, which I've been looking at a bit to get some ideas, it may be helpful for you to look there as well. I would note that while my oncologist will not permit me to take any regular estrogen replacement, she will permit the localized forms of Vagifem or Estrial (I think she preferred Estrial) which will at least help locally in the vaginal area. If you develop hot flashes and mood swings, doctors will often prescribe a very low dose of Effexor to help with those. Definitely good to discuss with your doctor when you can.

Best of luck with your recovery!!

Re: Alternative to Estrogen

Check in with the HRT forum. Lots of knowledge in there.
