I was wondering if someone could tell me how many Iv lines I will have for surgery one or two?

Re: Iv ?

I expect there to be only one IV needle, but there could very well be several tubes attached. That's what I had. One IV site on the back of my hand with 2 or 3 tubes, plus the ports for administering injectable drugs. It was a bit of a tangle, but only for a little while until I was up walking and the pain was under control with oral meds.

Re: Iv ?

I had dvh and I had two. Luckily the nurses asked where I wanted it as I hate those giant hand bruises you get when they are in your hand. Only one stayed in after surgery though.

Why do they need two for Dvh? I didn't think to ask.

Re: Iv ?

I am having my DVH on Friday and they told me that I would have two. They said with the DVH they need to move you in different positions and if one is obstructed they need access to the other one.

Re: Iv ?

I had a TLH and had two IVs. One with the actual line and the other one an access point in case I needed blood.

Re: Iv ?

They put 1 IV in while I was awake and then put in another one after I was under. They didn't use the second one. It was there "just in case".
