HRT Questions

I am 45 and still have regular cycles. I am scheduled for a total hysterectomy on the 6th. My doctor wants to wait to see if/when I get symptom before we start treating with HRT. Is that reasonable? This is very confusing. It makes sense logically, but wont menopause be instantaneous?

My Dr. started me before I even left the recovery room. My own personal preference would be to start on something immediately than to dig myself out of a hole. I think some Dr.s have the mistaken notion that we'll somehow make enough estradiol to get by and not have any symptoms. Not likely....

I agree with E2Me2. I was started on the patch the next day. It seems like the women who start right away report less issues than those who wait until they start having symptoms. You can always start and then taper off slowly over time. My doctor told me that she starts women on estrogen right away because the symptoms can be overwhelming if you have both ovaries removed.
