Pain meds question?

I had my surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow and still taking percocet and Morton every 4 hours. Last Tuesday I tried skipping the percocet and my whole body hurt. My belly and back was so painful I was in tears. Now I'm scared to try to go off of it. I have a second check up Friday and hopefully can be off the percocet by then! My question I'm wondering is anyone else still on pain meds at 2 weeks? I feel like a baby!

Yes. I am definitely still on pain meds, but have reduced from 6 percocet per day to 3. I take Motrin every 6 hours. I lie around most of the day, but do shower, wash my hair, and putter around. I walk a bit outside, but no more than 15-20 minutes. Easy does it... Slow and steady wins the race. I am envisioning myself as the tortoise ...

I'm at the 2 week mark tomorrow also. I no longer take the Vicodin but I'm still taking the ibuprofen every 6 hours or less depending on my pain levels. I was out a bit last week ad realized that rest is best. Just because you feel good, doesn't mean your body's ready. I've been from my bed, to the couch in my room, to the couch in the den. I'm seriously following drs orders, but I feel so batty.

**** smart! I am sure we want no further complications! "Best to Rest". Let those cellular workers do their thing. We wouldn't pester the plumber or contractor while they're workin... Let our healing mechanisms do the job they need to do without interference. Sometimes we have to go slow to go fast.

Re: Pain meds question?

I'm at 4 weeks post-op but my first 2 weeks were painful. I was continually on pain meds and it was only week 3 that I could even start to reduce the dosage. Overdoing it does make pain worse so do take it easy. Your body has been through some trauma and needs some guilt-free rest.

Re: Pain meds question?

I took narcotic pain meds every four hours around the clock, and advil every 6 hours around the clock for two full weeks. It was not till about the middle of week three that I was able to start going every 6 hours...by week four I was able to take one in the morning and one at night...by week 6 I was pretty much off them as far as needing them daily, but did end up taking something every now and then for almost 3 months...

Re: Pain meds question?

Thank you, Ladies for your pain med stories! It's good to hear from those who are up stream from us.

I am wondering how many of those who are doing well without pain meds suffered incredibly before their surgeries thus making their surgery pain a relief ? I did not suffer that way before my abdominal hysterectomy and bi lateral salpingo-oopherectomy and never bad any prior surgeries, so for me this pain was a whole new experience--and I have need my narcotics!

Curious, curious.

Re: Pain meds question?

Hi, am 3 weeks post op and I was in excruciating pain for months pre op so the relief of that pain was indeed a blessing. so much so that I keep forgetting it has only been just over 2 weeks. This is the 11th abdominal surgery for me (to many problems to list) and I never had a pain reduction before the 3 week. I over did it walking the first part of this week so that set me back a bit (yes it hurt!!!) I slept for 2 days and went back to taking meds around the clock for both days. Don't worry, if you need the meds take them! the doc is keeping an eye on you. Hugs out to all of you....Letta

Eleven abdominal surgeries!!??? Bless your heart! What you have been through! I declare! I hope this is the last of it and you enjoy a pain free future.

Thank you for your input... Very helpful!

Re: Pain meds question?

I still need pain meds @ 2 1/2 weeks but my doctor seems to think otherwise. It is very aggravating. I've told him I'm in pain but he just says take Motrin which isn't working! I feel like this is setting my recovery time back.
