Sudden Swelly Belly at week 11?

Hi friends,

For almost 11 weeks I have been recovering at a slow but reasonable pace, and don't think I have experienced the "swelly-belly"

Last week I had to visit my doctor because a spot in my (vertical) incision, and he said it was an abscess and gave antibiotic to take for 7 days, ending tomorrow. The abscess is still draining but is kind of better.

But now, since yesterday my stomach feels swollen and I have a new pain below and to the right of my belly button. It's a sharp pain that seems as if something is being pulled.

I don't think I have "over-done" it. But I am disconcerted with this odd pain and swell. Is it swelly belly? is it something else? Can this sudden strong pain begin after having been doing relatively well?

Re: Sudden Swelly Belly at week 11?

If this is a steady and sharp pain, please see your doctor asap or head to the ER! This doesn't sound like something that should be happening in a normal recovery. Now if you are talking about quick pulls or twinges, those were part of my normal healing. It doesn't hurt to ask your doctor though. Get back to us with what you find out.

Re: Sudden Swelly Belly at week 11?

When we are talking about a swelly belly, it is more like an overall bloating of the whole tummy area.
Most of us who have it feel that it is soft and fairly comfy in the morning after we have been resting, but can get hard and uncomfortable as the day wears on, or after overdoing things.
It is more like the bloating you may have experienced at your monthly period.

This does sound different, and something you should check out with your doctor at your folow-up checks
