Just home

I had a subtotal hysterectomy done keyhole, the op took 4 hours, my womb was 3.5 times the normal size so took a while to deal with!

I actually feel pretty good, the hospital were brilliant and can't praise them highly enough.

I have couple of tips that have made my recovery easier.
Now, the pre op laxative (I had pico lax) my tip for this is wipe very gently from the start, perhaps use moist wipes or very soft tissue, because I didn't and it hurt like mad and having the hospital enema the following morning didn't help! In hindsight i wish I'd used something soft and been a bit more gentle shall we say.

The opening the bowels issue! Having had absurd menstral bleeding for years and having to take iron daily, I know about being blocked. I drank warm water over any beverages in the hospital and found passing wind painless and happened pretty quickly, once I got home I had warm prune juice and that got everything going very quickly.

I hope this helps someone, even if it is just one of you.

Good luck to any of you about to go for the op, I wish you a speedy recovery x

Re: Just home

Thanks for the tips!

My surgery is tomorrow morning. This bowel cleanse is a bear. I've been going every 15 minutes for the last 7 hours and my bottom is sore. I started using a surgerator (squirt bottle) andthen just patting myself dry. It has helped a lot. I am passing basically clear liquid at this point.

Thanks for the advice for afterward too!
