Weightloss surgery and TAH

Has anyone had weightloss surgery and a TAH? I had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy two years ago. The recovery wasn't all that bad. A little bit of discomfort and lots of gas. Since I had 85% of my stomach removed and now I will be having the TAH I was just wondering what to expect.

Re: Weightloss surgery and TAH

Hi. Charlie. I cannot speak to your weight loss surgery in comparison to having a TAH.

I can tell you about my experience with my surgery. I had a TAH BSO and my incision was vertical - about 6 inches. The pain was manageable with narcotics and Motrin the first few days, and then I switched to just Motrin. I was on pain killers for about four weeks post-op. The biggest surprise for me was the level of fatigue. A short walk or a shower would exhaust me. I was away from my desk job for 3 weeks, and then went back only part time for 4 weeks before I could return full time.

You will need help around the house for a few weeks post-op for cooking, dishes, driving, shopping, etc. You will not be cleaning the house for about 8 weeks. Have meals in the freezer that you can pop in the microwave.

Please ask any specific questions.
