Another question. DH has horrible bronchitis. What can I do?

DH was at the doctor today since he's been coughing horribly for 3 weeks. It's bronchitis. He went before, but the doctor said it would go away and it didn't.

I'm having surgery next Wednesday.

If DH is still coughing like he is now, I'm assuming he won't be allowed in the hospital when I have surgery.

If he's not permitted to wait for me, do I have to find someone to wait in the waiting room while I'm being operated on?

I already had it planned to have DH drive me and wait for me, but with bronchitis I'm not sure if that plan will work. I have so back up plan and no one else willing to miss work to sit the waiting room during my surgery.

This is my first surgery. I don't know what to expect.

Can anyone guide me as to what I might be able to do?

Thanks. I feel like crying.

I'm not entirely sure why someone needs to be there. Is that a requirement of yours or of the hospital's?

Re: Another question. DH has horrible bronchitis. What can I do?

Sorry your DH is sick and hope you stay ok! Any chance he can go on antibiotics? If so, he has over a week til your surgery by which time I imagine his coughing would be much more under control. I'm not sure you need someone to wait for you at the hospital, rather probably just to drive you home, but as you may well want him to be there, I would see if he can take something to get better asap, so he is more comfortable at the hospital (he can wear a mask in the waiting room) and so you can hopefully not catch this from him. Take good care!!!

Re: Another question. DH has horrible bronchitis. What can I do?

I'm not sure. I won't be able to find out if someone needs to be there until I have my consult on Thursday.

I've never had surgery. The only people I know who have had surgery have been emergency cases. I just assumed someone had to be there. I don't know.

I know I'll definitely need a ride to the hospital since it's an hour away.

I'm just stressed out.

Just wanted to add that he was just given 500mg of antibiotic 3 times a day, so I hope it works.

I definitely want DH there for my surgery, but I don't know if the hospital will allow him in there if he's still coughing. DH never gets sick. He's had this cough for 3 weeks, and so far I haven't caught it. I pray that I don't. I'm so ready for this hysterectomy.

If you need him there you need him there.

I'm with Caroline about the antibiotics - get DH's cough under control. I hope it all works out for you.
