TVH and have had no children

Hello ladies,
I am a new to this site and could certainly use your support and experiances you have had. I will under go a TVH in March. I have had no children! My doctor after a exam stated my uterus is not enlarged and felt the TVH would be the best way to go. I am very small down there and would love to hear from those of you that have not had children, what your experiance was. THose whom have had children are telling me it is no big deal. I would like to hear from those of you with no children what type of pain you had and also what tupe of IV pump medication was used. Also once home how long it took to get up out of bed with no or little discomfort. Anxious to hear!

No advise yet but I am in basically the same boat as you. No kids and scheduled for a TLH in March. I look forward to what others can tell us!

Re: TVH and have had no children

nujrml,
I am hoping some one gives us some info in regaurd to what there experiance has been. Laprascopic I hear is the easiet way to go. My doctor stated the scope is used just to assist in the cutting, and detatchment, but everything is removed threw the vagina regaurdless. It helps them see better.

Re: TVH and have had no children

I cannot speak from experience, but my Aunt just had a TVH and she had not had any children. Her uterus was enlarged, but they were able to get it out with no issues.

Her recovery was fast and she had no incisions and very little discomfort.

Good luck to you!

Re: TVH and have had no children

Thanks Quirk for your reply! The only part i am nervous about is the pain when i wake up. So many women i know that have had this surgery, all have had children. It has got to be different for those of us that have never given birth. We have not been stretched from child birth. Great to hear your aunts experiance. I guess it all has to do with how well people deal with pain also. As long as i am comfortable i will be ok.

Re: TVH and have had no children

They weren't sure what surgery they were going to do, so they actually gave her a spinal before going in and then they were able to put her out and do the TVH. She said it was the best thing. She was up and moving quickly and had little discomfort.

If it's any consolation, I am terrified of the pain (I think we all are) and I have a really high pain tolerance!

Re: TVH and have had no children

Hi Ladies,

I have no children as well and was scheduled for TVH on 2nd Feb. At the end it turned to be not possible to have it done vaginally, so my doc suggested to do a TAH. First of all I was scared, because I didn't expect to have such a big incision. I my mind I thougt having it done as TAH must be much more painful, but with the medication it was actually managable.
I was discharged from hospital 10 days after surgery. Pain level was ok by that time. Unfortunately I had to return to the castle last weekend because of an infection on the incision.

I wish you all the best!
Take care

Re: TVH and have had no children

Maria,

Do you work? If so, please keep us posted on how you are doing as you return to work. I was out of work for two weeks in 2010 with a herniated disc and about went crazy (and that was with heavy medications the whole time). I am not sure how I will do with 2-3 weeks off this time or even longer if they do a big incision.

Re: TVH and have had no children

No, I am far away from returning to work. Right now I am not able to sit on a normal chair for more than a couple of minutes. The sofa is my best friend
The original plan was to be on sick leave for 6 weeks. But my doc does not think that we can stick to this plan. I will most probably not return until mid april.

Take care

Re: TVH and have had no children

I am extremely small down there. I have Lichen Sclerosus that has caused scarring and vuvla atrophy. I haven't had my hyster yet, but before having children (all 3 were c-section due to the atrophy) I did have a vaginal D & C and polyps removal. I cramped for 4 days, but have zero vaginal pain, despite the fact that when doing paps my doctor must use a virgin speculum on me and it hurts like all get out.
