Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

I am finding myself frustrated a lot in the last few days since my surgery was scheduled. After years of issues, losing my right ovary in 2009, I am now preparing to lose the rest - left ovary, cervix and uterus in 7 days (Feb. 23rd). At this time the doctor is planning to do a LAVH.

I'm crying over what seems the dumbest of things, it seems; or I just find myself getting teary. I'll admit I'm scared to a degree. While uterine biopsies were negative, there is still a possibility apparently but won't know all the details till after the surgery has been performed. But in the back of my mind there is the voice that says - "what if".

I go for my pre-op appointments on Tuesday, and the "get ready" tests don't bother me if they're the norm - blood work, chest x-ray; things like that.

I just really feel foolish about tearing up and/or crying. I had known this day would eventually come but for pete sake, I don't know why all the water works are happening now.

Is this normal? Is anyone else experiencing this or have experienced this while in pre-op status?

Re: Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

Sweetie, what you are experiencing is completely normal. This is a very emotional surgery. Your uterus had made its presence known to you (for better or worse) on a monthly basis for decades, and now that is being taken away from you. This is much different than having an appendix removed. I cried multiple times before my surgery, and also cried much afterwards.

And I know how upsetting it is to have something growing inside you, and having to wait until the surgery to find out the results of the pathology. I had a large cyst that was tested while I was in the OR - all was benign, thankfully. I know it is hard to do, but take this one step at a time - don't get ahead of your diagnosis.

We are here for you and understand what you are going through. We will help you through this - both pre- and post-op.

(((Hugs))) to you....

Re: Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

LOL, I'm sitting here crying reading your response but wanted to say thank you. I'm so glad (relieved even, maybe) that I stumbled across this site. I'm glad to know I'm not "crazy" for these crying spells. I just had no clue that a surgery that I knew I'd eventually have (was told this was a possibility after my right ovary was removed in 2009), would impact me like this. These final steps have been such a whirlwind... literally. Biopsies were done 2 weeks ago, ultrasound was done last week and now surgery this coming Thursday. I'm trying to catch my breathe with all of this.

Thank you again for your response. A ((hug)) will have to do although I wish it could be a real one.

Re: Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

I know sweetie. It can be a real whirlwind. I had 10 days between being told I needed a hysterectomy and being on the table. Not much time to process - but time for multiple

Re: Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

Yes you are completely normal! I cried so much pre op and I cried even more post op. This is a very emotional surgery and the most difficult thing I've had to do. You can do this and we're here to help you.

I also had serious concerns about how my pathology would come back. There are so many unknowns with this surgery. I didn't know if I had cervical cancer, didn't know if I'd get to keep my ovaries and wasn't sure if the surgery would be done vaginally. I had to wait until I woke up to find out. Trust in your doctor and he/she will make the right decisions for you and your health.

Come here often, we are always here for you.

I felt the same way! HUGS to all of you!!! I cried as they wheeled me into the or! It is a major surgery and it is scary and emotional. I did my best to keep busy and to focus on how great life will be after. That is what helped me. Everyone is different. Accept how you feel and dont feel bad for having your thoughts and feelings. Best wishes to all of you!

Re: Emotional, Frustrated 7 days till surgery

I know exactly how you are feeling. In the week prior to my surgery, I was a wreck. One thing that a good friend told me was to just let it all out. Don't apologize for the emotions, cry when you need to cry and know that you have a wonderful support network here.
Sending you ~~strength~~ to get through this week!
