How much pain meds should I take

I had my hysterectomy feb 15 and I just came home today, I take morphine for fybro, although I was comfortable in the hospital they didn't send me home with any extra morphine, and I Also have sleep apnea, I do have extra pain meds but I don't want to be chasing my pain I want to manage it,I guess I should have asked that question but it was a long day,so I guess my question is should me being already on morphine wouldn't I need a bit more cause I am in pain!

Re: How much pain meds should I take

Your doctors probably didn't give any "extra" because you are already have some for your fibromyalga. Many doctors won't send extra when they know that their patients already have narcotic pain meds. They may have decided that they didn't want to risk you abusing it. I honestly do not know. Perhaps a call Monday to your doctor can clear this up.

For what I know about sleep apnea, it means you snore and will often times stop breathing while you are sleeping. I have known several people with this condition and it's painless so no reason to require extra pain meds for this condition.

So I guess I am not truly understanding what it is that you are asking. You already have pain meds. I understand you have just had surgery, but if you already have some, apparently even some "extra" just lying around, why do you need more?

Re: How much pain meds should I take

Pain varies a lot person to person I only needed Aleve post op once I got home, so you not have much pain----or, some ladies are on narcotic pain meds for a few days or longer. Probably you'll need to give your Dr a call if you find you need more meds than you have. But I was told ibuprofen or Aleve were better for this type pain so maybe adding those would be sufficient for you, if that's OK with your Drs. Probably if it isn't on your post op instructions, there is an on call Dr if you need more info before Monday. Good luck, I hope your pain is minimal.
