Re: Airplane travel after surgery?

I am having my LAVH on Wednesday Feb 22. I'm flying Monday Feb 27th. Sounds crazy. I know. I'm single and have very few resources in this new city. I have a ride to and from the hospital. Then I'm home alone. I'm flying home to stay with people who can take care let me lay around and recover.

I'm an ICU nurse - and should know better, right? lol . I asked my doctor about flying. She, of course, cautioned on travel, but agreed that I can go. I will be wearing compression hose and move legs and drink water to reduce risk of blood clots. I won't be lifting any bags, I have that carry part covered with wheels and tips to helpers. lol.

So, yes, I'm worried. I will have meals ready so it'll be no work other than microwave. No cleaning needed around the house for those few days I'm alone. And I'm already packed for the trip. So I'm set up as best as I can be.

Traveling home seems the better option and recovering all alone (just wish I could do the surgery at home too).

Re: Airplane travel after surgery?

If your doctor has cleared you, and you are an ICU nurse that can recognize if you need medical care while on the trip, go.
You certainly have good reasons for going.

Re: Airplane travel after surgery?

I had a LAVH and the two week mark was good for me, I felt great but then the third week hit me like a ton of bricks! I had some complications and would have been very upset if I wasn't able to get to my doc. I think two weeks is to early to be travelling. I am scheduled to go away in April at 4 months post op and I am still nervous!
