Ok... I am a bit confused with needing the pads part. How long am I going to need pads for and what are they going to be "catching" when my uterus, cervix, my left ovary and my fallopian tubes are being removed? What's left???

Can someone clear this up for me please?

Re: Pads????

You need the pads if you have a bit of bleeding post-op. I had the bleeding after lavh, but only for like two days max. Very light, almost nothing, kind of rose color.

Some women need it for longer. It is all normal.

Re: Pads????

I had a little blood in my vagina left from the surgery and the creation of the vaginal came out in a "whoosh" when I sat up for the first time, and then there was about a day as it drained out completely - getting lighter and fainter. It was all gone within 24 hrs. Had it not been for this site I would have been terrified - but because of these lovely ladies, I was expecting it!!

good luck!

Re: Pads????

I'm glad I asked... it's something I didn't really think about or contemplate. And, yeah, I would have been the one who started freaking if I had not known to expect it. Thank you everyone for clearing that up for me.

Re: Pads????

I didn't even bleed once I got home and hardly no bleeding at hospital. I was ready for anything though. Everyone heals different, and if you are not careful and do too much durring recovery, that may cause some bleeding too. Good luck!!

Re: Pads????

I bought pads and didn't really need them until my 3rd week post op. Until then the only discharge I had was clear and occasionally a light brown. Not enough to need pads. My surgeon packs the vagina after surgery and he said his patients rarely bleed afterward. I think it really just depends on each individual. Best to be prepared anyway!

Re: Pads??

Panty liners should be sufficient. I had one "whoosh" the day after surgery and light spotting since. I'm 19 days post-op. The nurse in the hospital said to expect it for 3 weeks and I've read longer here. It's not bright red so I'm not concerned.

What does that mean "packs the vagina"??? Does that mean there will be gauze in there? Sorry, just curious.

Re: Pads??

Yes. Lots of gauze. I was surprised too after my LAVH procedure about 5 1/2 weeks ago. They take it out the next day, no big deal. I still need panty liners though... Very pinkish spotting, light, since surgery. Then at 3 weeks it turned more red but that was normal from everything settling in. Now it's disappearing but still there in the mornings. All will be fine!

Re: Pads??

I had discharge for about six weeks post-op - all normal. At first it was some blood, not much. Then I also had some brownish discharge, yellowish waxy discharge, and clear discharge. I used the ultra-thin maxis and those seemed to work for me.

Everyone is different.
