ovarian failure???

Hello, I had a TAH in july 2010 I still have both ovaries, over the past few weeks I have gained probably 10 lbs and have extreme bloating. Even when i wake up in the morning i feel like i have eaten a 5 course meal. I have read that your ovaries can start to fail after a hysterectomy. I dont have insurance so i cant run to the doctor for a check up. also, most every female on my mothers side of the family has died from cancer, my aunt died a couple of yrs ago from breast cancer and my cousin( moms side) has had a lump removed from her breast. I have always heard that ovarian and breast cancer are closely related. Has anyone had the same problems? What about the ca125 test anyone know how mush that cost and if it is worth it, what exactly would it show? thanks for the help!

Re: ovarian failure???

The ovaries can fail following a hysterectomy as their blood supply can be interrupted. If they have failed, you would likely be experiencing symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, loss of libido, and vaginal dryness.

If you are having bloating issues, you could be dealing with a multitude of health issues from IBS, dehydration, digestive issues, and dietary changes, to cysts, tumors, or a cancer concern.

Because you have an endometriosis diagnosis, it could be the culprit as well.

If you are concerned about cancer, you need to see a doctor ASAP. Check your area for one who charges on a sliding scale for those who are un- or under-insured. Your own doctors may offer programs for situations like yours. You could also see if there are any clinics associated with your local hospitals, check with a teaching facility, or call your local health department.

In the mean time, keep a symptom diary that you can take with you to your appointment.
