Belly button incision open?

I'm 2 weeks post-op from DvH and my incision was deep in my belly button.

This will be hard to describe but here goes:
Last night the clear adhesive stuff was peeling off (not steri-strip). I scratched it a bit and the scabbed over part of my incision lifted off.

The skin underneath was raw and bled a bit. I didn't see any stitches.

I covered it with gauze and a Band-aid.

Today the incision site is very sore, and raw.
But because it's in my belly button, I can't see much.
There is a tiny bit of drainage, no sign of infection, and I have my follow up appointment on Monday.

Is it normal for a SIL in the belly button to do this at 2 weeks??
Did I hurt the healing process?
ETA: I'm mad at myself for bothering the incision site- I should know better!

Re: Belly button incision open?

I had some trouble with my belly button. My incision was right above my bb. After my staples were removed the doc put the gorilla glue type strips on me. A couple days later the strip ripped off in my sleep. Even before the staples were removed it was the one that was bothering me the most when I did anything. I felt the most pinching and poking from that one.My guess is that it's pretty normal for it since there's so much muscle movement in the middle of your abdomen. Even after the strip ripping trauma everything was fine in the end. The scar is a little bigger than the others but it never actually opened. It just seemed to take a little longer to heal completely than the others. Probably because of all the movement and stretching.

In my case everything had happened a less than 2 weeks and I was fine. Unless you are still bleeding, getting weird discharge, and/or in a lot of pain I wouldn't worry too much.

Re: Belly button incision open?

Gee, I picked at it 2 days after I got home, because it was 1/2 lifted off anyway. It didn't bleed and I really can't see what's in there. I thought it was supposed to fall off within a week??? Call your doctor if it's draining/bleeding!
