Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

I am 2 weeks post op and I had a TAH-BSO. My fibroid was 8 cm, my ovaries were shrunken, and I had a small amount of endo on tubes. That was a surprise. It's a big decision. Check out this great website and it will answer a lot of your questions. I learned quite a few things and am happy with my decision. Good luck with yours!

Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

I saw 4 dr's. Actually 5 two in one practice. The 4th referred to the 5th. Who did my hysterectomy. I researched alot and asked questions. You have to what is best for your health and body. If ovaries are attached to uterus with scar tissue if they find disease then best they go. Find dr you trust and go from there.

Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

I just "gave birth" to a large fibroid on Friday. I, too, had a doctor who just wanted to take everything out. My second opinion doctor explained that he's seen fibroids grow back on the cervix so I conceded to let him take that out, but thankfully, they don't grow on ovaries. I wanted to keep my ovaries, if possible. The surgery to remove an ovary, should it need to come out in the future, is a far less complicated surgery, he said. That sounded like a risk I'd take in order to delay HRT a while longer. And I also tell everyone I can: those abdominal binders really make a difference in comfort level. I put mine on as soon as I could after surgery.

Good luck!

Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

I am having it all removed. After extensive research and talking to my mother who had a hyst in 1997 and she had it all removed with no problems. Also reading the posts on here have reassured me. I go in for pre-op tomorrow and surgery is the following Tuesday. I'm excited to get rid of this agony I am in most of the time and yet scared of how I will feel after.

Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

Just my opinion. Everyone is different. And if your ovaries are good I would keep them nothing replace your natural hormones. I wish I did. But thats just me. I find women who keep there ovaries seem to be better off. Either way I pray you have a speedy recovery and you do well lol

Re: Fibroids--did anyone have their ovaries removed, too?

Yes I know about the hormone thing but my pain is a lot from my ovaries and it shoots down my legs! I have knifing pains on both sides. Doc says its from scar tissue squeezing them! Ouch!
