The date is set!

Finally, the date for my surgery is set: Monday, April 2nd!

I had my third opinion appointment yesterday, with an ob/gyn in my new practice who does robot-assisted surgeries.

I will not be keeping my cervix, as I had hoped. The doctor's opinion is that, because of the size of my uterus, morcellating it in order to remove it laparscopically would mean an additional two hours under anaesthesia for me, and she doesn't want to do that. She expects the surgery to take 3-4 hours as it is, so I would not want to add another two hours. So, a robot-assisted total vaginal hysterectomy it will be. I am keeping my ovaries, and am happy about that.

No bowel prep, surgery at 7:30 am, a catheter until the afternoon/evening, an overnight hospital stay, 6" holes" with no external stitches- just steri-strips.

My doctor said I should be cleared for normal activites at two weeks, but if I want/need more time off, she will write for it. I think two weeks is optimistic; it took me two weeks to recover from having my gallbladder removed, and that was done laparascopically.

Now to start getting things in order...

Re: The date is set!

It will soon be here! I suggest you plan for more than 2 weeks. No matter how the surgery is done, the internal work is still the same. Even though I had a TAH, my staples were removed at 6 days, and I have never really had any problems with the incision. However, I am still tender on the inside, and I am nearly 3 months out. I've had a great recovery, but I can tell you that I would not have been ready at 2 weeks, and especially not at 4 weeks, when things were even more tiring.

Take care. I wish you well!
