Keeping your cervix or not?

Hello All...

Just wanted to know if it is true that keeping your cervix (if it is an option), can cause "mini periods" or any other issues. My doctor says that I don't need to keep mine but now I'm torn! I don't want to ever bleed again!!!

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Keeping your cervix or not?

I am hopefully going to be able to keep mine. My doctors only concern is since I had 3 c-sections I may have alot of scar tissue which may have adheared my bladder to my uterus and in that case my cervix may have to go. I have to admit the vaginal cuff scares me a little. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Keeping your cervix or not?

ladyfuji,

There is a small chance of bleeding if you keep your cervix and ovaries (or use cyclic HRT). If you do bleed, it's usually very minimal. I've had one mini period (when I was on cyclic HRT) and it was barely noticeable.

There are good reason to keep and good reasons to not keep your cervix depending on your individual needs. If you don't feel comfortable with your doctor's advice, a second opinion is in order.

I chose to keep my healthy cervix for the quicker recovery.
Talk to your doctor about his reason for advising you to remove your cervix.

You are wise to ask questions.
