Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

Seems like most everyone here has different issues than mine. I do have a fibroid but it's small, I do have cysts on my ovaries, and I don't know how that will affect things yet. I meet with my doctor Monday (28th) to discuss and schedule surgery. I've just had the initial exam and an u/s at the office. My issue is a prolapsed uterus, rectocele, cystocele, and I have an old tear that she wants to fix up as well. I would love to hear from someone whose surgery was due to prolapse.

I can't wait to get going! I'm tired of the vaginal pain, abdominal cramps, urinary frequency, and just general discomfort.

I read the stories that are in the HysterSister booklet and I agree with what so many of the women said. The waiting is hard!! Feeling very impatient to just get the surgery done......or at least scheduled so I have a date to look forward to.

Love this web site. It has been so helpful for coming up with a list of questions for my doctor. Thanks!

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

I am newer as well. My surgery is scheduled for 3/13/12, started because of a prolapsed uterus. I said ok then lets get it out and while we are at it lets fix my urine leakage. My ob/gyn sent me to a urologist and now I am scheduled, for TVH, might lose one ovary or both depending on what they look like during surgery, one had a cyst but the pain is on both sides so both might have cysts. I have a cyctocele as well. No mention yet of a rectocele so I dont think that is an issue.
I have found so much information on this site and absolutely love it here! Good luck on your appointment

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

I'm scheduled for March 13 for TVH for prolapsed uterus and rectocele/ cystocele repair. I was really really worried about the hysterectomy at first, but now I'm mostly worried about the rectocele. I have never worried about pooping before! Sorry for being so frank!!

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

Hi- i am almost 5 weeks post op from a TVH from prolapse. I had cystocele and rectocele repair as well as a bladder sling.
I just had my 1st post op appt today and dr said all looked great and at 6 weeks i am clear to lift, have sex, and go back to
a normal life. Though, i will probably wait a little longer just to be cautious.

I am 42 with and have 3 kids in 4 yrs, thus the prolapse. Though things are still swollen, can tell it is nice to not feel a falling out uterus anymore or pee when i sneeze!

Its been a mellow recovery and i just set it up to have help so i could take it very slow and easy. Just this week i have been getting out, driving kids to school and resuming a more regular routine. By theend of the day, i am super tired and feel pressure in m pelvid area...i can tell that the whole 100% back to normal will still be a while, but 4-5 weeks of intense rest and healing time is what i needed.

While i knew i had bladder issues, i was super surprised when my dr diagnosed me with rectocele...i didn't think or feel like that was An issue at all for me, but i suppose they go hand in hand. In any case, that hasn't really felt like a big deal to heal from. The hardest part is what seems to be most peoples pos op issues- gas pains and constipation from surgery and pain meds. I took colace and miralax post op, along with tons of fiber heavy foods and a nice strong cup of morning coffee to help
Just be prepared for that part and rest and all will go well.

I wish you luck!

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

I just had my surgery two days ago due to prolapse uterus. Even though I am sore, I feel better than I did before surgery. I don't feel the ongoing dull pain or lower back pain. I'm glad I did it, but will be happier when I'm back to feeling "normal".

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

I have just been given my surgery date (April 16) for a prolasped uterus as well. Although my doc hasn't said if i have to have any other repairs done while he's in there. He won't know 100% until he is in there...
Best of luck to you all and a speedy recovery

Re: Did anyone have surgery for prolapse?

I had a DaVinci total hysterectomy due to a prolapse uterus, and a cystocele and a sling, 11 days ago.My Dr. Wanted to remove both ovaries and cervix, said I dont need them anymore. I am 56. I was faster to recover from the Hysterectomy, stll having pain from the repair. Its hard to sit down, even for a short time. This all together was more than I thougt it would be. I am still mostly in bed, no energy and discomfort. I had a Dr. Appt. today, and asked for Testerone hormones. He said I dont need that. Only Erstradiol estrogen. But I will be glad that I had all this done when I am totally well again, and wont have all the pulling discomfort.I never had any leakage. Good luck.
