15 days to go and starting to get scared.

From the time I scheduled the surgery till now I've been excited. Today, I'm nervous. I've gone through two total hip replacement surgeries in the past 18 months. CTS surgeries on both wrists, knee surgery, breast reduction surgery and didn't blinked an eye. Only problem I had out of all those, was the second hip replacement I had a bladder & kidney infection and I was fine after a few more days in the hospital and some antibiotics and no problems since not even a cold.

I went to my pre-op @ the castle and had an EKG & blood work done, no nerves. Today, I'm scared…maybe apprehensive is more the word. I think it maybe the HRT. I read about the possibilities of: heart, stroke, cancer, this, that, blah, blah, blah. My parents don't nor didn't have any of those issues.

Both ovaries get cysts and are painful and I constantly feel like I have my period, and when I do get my period I don't know what to expect or for how long and so on and so forth. It's not appendix or gallbladder (I can eat salads like a bunny, no problems.)

I'm prepared. I have my pillow, my oversized lounging jammies & undies, pads for the when I get home if I need. extra pillows, paperwork from work for the doctor all my vitamins that are pre packaged, meals ect.

Any thoughts, advise, hints? PLEASE!!

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

I was really sick before my surgery. I could not even enjoy family time without going home after an hour or 2 because the pain became to much to bear.
After just one week post Op I had way less pain than I have had in the year before hand. I felt free and happy not to be in so much pain...
Keep reminding yourself that you will feel better in the end...

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

Your nervousness is totally understandable - The wait is generally the hardest part!! One thing I wish I had thought to get earlier in my recovery is one of those grabber things, to help you pick things up without bending. But it sounds like you are well prepared - Do you have someone who will be staying with you/checking in at least for the first week?

I also had years of issues with my ovarian cysts and crazy long periods. I was almost gleeful the morning of my surgery, couldn't wait for the surgeon to take out all my troublesome parts. Of course, there are issues on the other side of surgery, but keep your eye on why you are having the surgery and think how great it will be to never have ovarian cysts, ultrasounds, pain, etc again!! Take good care!

Hello Carolann,

You are definately more prepared then me, our surgeries are scheduled for the same day mine is at 1:00 pm when is yrs? Reading how ready you are has made me realize I to must get ready, the only other thing I can recommend is one of those grabber sticks a girlfriend of mine recommended it said it was a life saver after her hystrectomy.

I will say a prayer for u for a easy successful surgery. We will always be same day surgery sisters

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

Jptermj1,

I have to call next friday to find out what time I have to be at the hospital on Tuesday but for some reason I'm thinking it's about the same time. or possible 2 ish. it would be great if they called me in the morning and ask me if I could be there earlier.
LOL I have the grabber sticks. LOL and a friend rigged ti with a cord so I can hang it around my neck when I'm walking. LOL

Before my mom passed she told me to keep a lot of her things that she had cause you never know if you're going to need them. I'm getting her $$s worth too. I have the compression stocking from my hip surgeries and the hospital foots. lol

As for getting the house cleaned well I didn't get it as clean and organized as much as I would have liked. but I have a few weeks/ends to do it in and what we do. I'm getting a lot of the ideas from other posts. And I figure if I'm join to be home for 4-6 wks. I'm going to be comfortable.

I went to Walmart and got my nice new bright white undies, some pads (just in case), day dress and I'm getting my hair cut short one more time before surgery hopefully on Friday or Saturday.

I think whatever was bothering me over the weekend has passed. I felt like there was something wrong and just couldn't put my finger one it. It bothered me so much so that I couldn't get to sleep last night. As soon as I said my prayers and asked God to bless Dr. Surgeon that she will be and her hands and mind would be skilled. (I always pray for my Drs.) and I was able to fall asleep. And that cloud is gone I don't feel it any more.

I will pray for you as well.
thank you

I am so happy to hear that... Sometimes we feel stressed and don't know why or we over think things and a good night sleep helps us..
Prayers for a speedy recovery...

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

Carolann,

Since you are more organized then me maybe you can fit in a road trip to Chicago to help me get organized . I actually started really deep cleaning the house today, planned meals, and wrote my list out of things to get from Walmart/target for my great fashion style for weeks following surgery. Why do I think I'm forgetting something ugh! So much to think about!!!!!!

I am now starting what will be my last period ever wow who would of thought at 37 I would be looking forward to not having that again, I guess it's finally hitting me so now of course thoughts of "will I still be the same woman I was before the surgery" is this normal for me to feel this way?????

Stay strong my fellow sister!

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

Hi Ladies,

My surgery is March 14th & I'm feeling the same. I was excited @ first but as it gets closer I'm having 2nd thoughts. I know it's the best thing for me but still scared .

I've spent so much time getting ready @ work for my LOA, that I've not prepared at home. Need to start on that this weekend.

Carolann & Jen I'll be thinking about you on the 13th& wishing you well.

Take Care !

Re: 15 days to go and starting to get scared.

I think that praying for your surgeon is a key thing. And ask as many people as you can to pray for you, too! I know that's why I did as well as I did before, during and after my surgery. My Pastor and his wife were there with me right before I went into the OR and it helped a lot!

I pray that everything goes smoothly for you and you have a quick recovery.
