Having my last period ever (kids mentioned)

What a strange feeling. I'm cramping and bleeding and feel useless to my family and it still hasn't sunk in yet that I will never go through this again...ever. My surgery is next week. This will be my last period ever.

My hyster is scheduled mainly because my doctor suspects adenomyosis. But the truth is, I've had miserable periods since I was 12 years old. I had to be put on the pill before my 13th birthday just to control the bleeding. Other wise I'd have 3 week periods. I tried to get off of it several times throughout my teen years, but ended up back on it again until I was 22.

Then I suffered through years of infertility before finally getting pregnant. I quickly had two more babies, and all three were c-sections.

Now my kids are still young (5, 3, and 2) and I'm only 35 and about to have my uterus and cervix removed. As my doctor said, my uterus has given me trouble since I was 12 years old. It served it's purpose and gave me 3 healthy children, but now it's time for it to go.

I felt shocked and panicked about the hyster at first. I don't want sexual problems at such a young age. But now I'm trying to stay real positive about this next chapter in my life...no more bleeding, no more cramping, no more being confined to my home during my 4 heavy days each month, no more anxiety about accidentally getting pregnant again (I had a placenta abnormality with my last pregnancy that could have been caused by adenomyosis, which makes the thought of another pregnancy really scary).

After struggling with my yucky periods, and now dealing with cramps every day for the past year, I'm looking forward to being able to just focus on my family and enjoy my kids' childhood.

Re: Having my last period ever (kids mentioned)

Congrats!! Your surgery is scheduled the day before mine (and we are the same age!). I, too, have had abnormal periods since I started. My mom had to buy me urine guards to use as pads because my periods were so heavy and at 11 and 12 was too young for tampons (in both our opinions). I have been struggling with problems for the last few years and am tired of it as well, especially since no one can tell me WHY I have problems. They wanted to stick me on hormones but I have refused because since my last child, when I was on the pill, I would have periods every two weeks AND yeast infections. I was tired of trying different ones. I am most likely keeping my cervix because I have never had any issues with it, but it is a decision I have been mulling over for a few weeks now.
Here's to the last week of all this! Congrats again. And yes, you will be able to enjoy your kids without the bothersome periods. I wish you the best!!
