one month until surgery

hi. my first time here and nervous. i have already cancelled my hysteroctomy once and almost want to again. i am 50 years old and have not have my period for three years. i'll assume i'm past menopause. i am having horrible pain during intercourse and actually have not been sexually active for months because of this. after having a ct scan, it was determined that I have several fibroids; one larger one that is causing the pain. my regular doctor sent me to an OBGYN; i choose a female doctor hoping i'd feel more comfortable talking about the situation. She suggested a hyst and my doctor agreed because I have had several irregular pap smears. I will be having a DaVinci laparoscopic assisted vaginal hyst. I only have four weeks of leave coming from my job as a secretary and none from my second job as a gaming employee. I also live alone (except for my nine pound poodle) and have no one i can ask to help me in the days following the surgery. all of these things are causing me great alarm. Is four week unrealitic to expect to go back to work and will living alone hinder my recovery? these are some of the reasons i am considering cancelling the surgery again. any opinions.

Re: one month until surgery

First, I'm sorry that you are faced with this decision. I too was scared to death and canceled my surgery 3 times before I had no choice but to have it. Some people do go back after 3-4 weeks. The DvH people for the most part seem to feel better quicker. I had TAH and am still sore at 4 weeks. I too had fibroids and I havebto say I feel better now than before surgery. Living alone will be a challenge at first. Stock your freezer with meals and get a grabber. Maybe you could contact a local church to see if they can offer any help. Others on the board have done it while living alone and have done well. Best of luck to you!
