Re: apron of skin swollen and overhanging my incision scar

I had surgery a week after you and I totally have this going on too. Because of my "overhang," I haven't been able to even see my incision to date. I think this is probably normal from what I've read. My doctor wants me to get in there (underneath the overhang) and start cleaning the incision with soapy water.

I have the belly overhang too, and feel bruised sometimes, but other times, not so much. It's weird. I have it on my list of things to ask my dr tomorrow. She is soooo going to love me, lol! I'm a week behind you.

Re: apron of skin swollen and overhanging my incision scar

I remember being horrified at the look of my tummy right after surgery. I thought it was going to be like that forever but two doctors reassured me that it would go away. I had a slight overhang over mine and it took 8 months for it to go mostly flat. A lot of the overhang has to do with swelly belly and with the skin having to retract from it being stretched during the surgery. If you didn't have an overhang before surgery, chances are that things will look much better with time.

I hope this helps.

I have this too - I am a bit round in the middle to start, but this is definately swelling - I lift it gently and check my incision with a mirror - it looks ok, so I am not too worried. I too feel bruised and I get pulling and aches in new spots occasionally. I think it's all good - everything was pulled and moved and cut - takes time...

Take care!

Re: apron of skin swollen and overhanging my incision scar

Being a "fluffy girl" I have a little more tummy then I need over my incision sites, my doctor told me to make sure that skin is not touching skin on those sites to ensure that they will heal properly. I used folded paper towels the first week and then some folded toilet paper since then. I had been told to try a pad by a few women around me but didn't like the idea of having the plastic there. Everything is healing very well and the bruises have disappeared.
