Re: Enlarged Uterus

My uterus and fibroids were absolutely enormous. The biggest fibroid was the size of a grapefruit, and lodged between my sacrum and my bowels. A normal uterus is 80 grams, mine was 800!! My dr warned me that she was concerned they would have to switch to TAH during my laprascopic procedure....and said if things got hard to see, that they would. Well, she's a rockstar, and they were able to complete the entire four hour op without conversion. They did a TLH, removed my cervix, and removed the uterus through one of the incisions. I am one week out, and feel so so much better already. It can be done! Good luck with your procedure. I assure you, no matter which way it comes out, getting rid of an enlarged painful uterus feels so good once it's gone...

Re: Enlarged Uterus

I went in for my laproscopic hysterectomy and came out with an abdominal hysterectomy. Doctor said my uterus was larger than expected and even after blowing up my belly with gas, she had no room to manuever around in there. Of course I wish I didn't have to have it done that way but I discussed my options with her and I knew it was a possibility. The important thing for me was to get it out!!!I'm only 5 weeks out and still healing so i haven't really been able to take advantage of my uterus-less-ness, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Good luck!

Re: Enlarged Uterus

My dr told me at pre op that they may need to change from LAVH to TAH , said i had a large uterus, but didnt say how large, so at least i have that pre warning that it may change, I'm 4 days out from going in, so cant wait for this to be over, seems like this month my body knows its the last time it can give me grief, and its doing a good job.

so its now just a waiting game,

takecare all and speedy recovery for you all still waiting

Re: Enlarged Uterus

My uterus was very enlarged (size of 6 months pregnant) and I had multiple fibroids, some as large as a grapefruit. I had the DaVinci done 2 days ago on the 28th. I kept my ovaries but they took the uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes. Ladies I had so much anxiety going into this but I came home yesterday and have only been on ibuprofen since yesterday. I am uncomfortable but not in pain. I am following all instructions and giving into my body when I am tired and weak. Took my first shower today and sat out in the fresh air for a little while. My Vejayjay feels absolutely fine. I do have a swollen belly and some bruising but nothing like I expected. I was worried about the size of the uterus but it wasn't a problem. I wish the best to all of you and just know that the waiting and anxiety is the worst part. I will update you on my progress.

Re: Enlarged Uterus

Thank you for sharing your experience Chica!!! I am full of anxiety! I spoke to my surgeon yesterday about not having the TAH and going for the davinci, but she still seems to think the only way is to go for the TAH! She did explain the why to me and I am trusting her. I am sadly disappointed but I am accepting it I am happy the removed your tubes without having to take the ovaries that is very tricky because they share the same vessels!! All the best in your recovery and yes, pls keep us posted! Mine is coming up on the 30th!! Yikes! Xoxo

Re: Enlarged Uterus

I had LAVH in December. My uterus was 3x normal size. My gyn told me he may have to do TAH once he got in there, but as it turns out the LAVH went fine. I was home the next day and recovered well.

Re: Enlarged Uterus

I was scheduled for a dVh/BSO with possible TAH. My uterus was "extremely huge" to quote my surgeon. I was able to stay with a da Vinci even with a 5,238 gram (11.6lbs) uterus that was approximately the size of a 6 month pregnancy. I was on the table for almost 5 hours and have larger scars, but was saved an open surgery. My DR said that conversions are not the norm especially with the da Vinci. I'm 5 months post op and feel FANTASTIC!!! No matter the type of surgery, you will be so happy with the results. Good luck to you and take care.

Re: Enlarged Uterus

TN, what did you wind up having done? I have been cautioned I may have to be converted, too. Though, I think more for adhesions, endo, etc more than my Fibroids. Hope you are recovering well!

Re: Enlarged Uterus

Ninjaqueen, it's great that you have faith in your doctor but I would seriously encourage you to get a second opinion about the DaVinci. They have a website for DaVinci and can direct you to doctors near you. My sister is a Dr and has attended so many conferences on this and it is so much better of a surgery. I had my post-op yesterday and I am doing great. All the pathology came back negative which was a relief. I have been through a very long journey dealing with this health issue and the most important thing I have learned is that it is "your body" and you have a right to say what happens. I had to fight many times but truly my instinct always was right and I was so happy that I did the research and fought the battle. I wish you well whatever you choose to do. Message me anytime if you have any questions or just want to talk. I am praying for you.

Re: Enlarged Uterus

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to update you. I spoke with my surgeon and asked all of the questions of the comments mentioned here on this post. Actually, I showed her! She explained to me that although it is possible, she thinks in her professional opinion the TAH is the way to go. I have had 2 c-sections, plus an ectopic, fibroids etc etc!! seems like the list goes on! With the risk of having to switch over after attempting a Davinci and that being longer OR time, it just makes sense to go with the TAH. I am still pretty disappointed. I feel worse than i did when the ablation failed. The clock is ticking, the 30th is around the corner so i am working on acceptance!

Also, I am not sure about you ladies, but I am scared to death of the unknown! Will I feel different without those organs? Will I feel like less of a woman? What happens is she has to take both of my ovaries? Am i at 36 years of age prepared and ready for menopause? again, the list goes on! I am freaked out of my mind! I feel really alone as none of my girlfriends have had to go through with this as of yet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks again ladies)
