7 days post op

So last Friday I had a Da Vinci hysterectomy and was discharged the following morning. They didn't even get me up and moving before they let me leave nor did they ask if I was using the bathroom okay before leaving. I think some of this had to do with the fact that the women's survey wing was full so they put me on a general surgery floor.

Anyway, I still have really no appetite but am making myself eat as much as I can. My biggest concern is that I've been taking Ducolax stool softeners with every dose of pain meds and also taking 2 laxatives at night before bed and I still haven't had a bowel movement.

I know the surgeon said this could be an issue but I figured it would only be a couple of days so I'm starting to get a little worried. I don't have a follow up until March 16th.

Re: 7 days post op

I would give your doctor a call. Pain meds can be constipating, but if you aren't going even with laxatives it is time to call the doctor.

Amanda I had my surgery on Tuesday the 28th. The hospital I was in was full too and I was put up on maternity. They would not let me leave until I could pee on my own. Anyway my dr. prescribed a stool softener 1x daily. If you are taking with pain meds maybe you are taking too much? Pain pills will constipate you. Drink lots of fluids and try prune juice. Don't push too hard either, you may pull some internal stitches. And you should call your dr. tomake sure you are really supposed to be taking that much stool softener. Best of luck!
