Re: New with Post-op questions

sugarandspice, thank you for the reply. I realized after I asked this question that this is a "big" issue of ongoing debate. I had *no* idea! geesh. I feel so uneducated and naive. I am more nervous now that I am learning more.... maybe "in the dark" was the way to go?

Re: New with Post-op questions

Well, you are way ahead of the game! How 'bout taking care of mine too! My surgery was postponed so I did the house cleaning and prep work for my DD b-day back in January. I work better under pressure!! BTW, my cervix is going...Doc told me that if it's being done vaginally then the cervix goes too. Wonder what will happen if they end up having to go abdominally...OH well...guess I'll find out when I wake up! Send me some of your energy...

Re: New with Post-op questions

am still trying to figure out how to navigate on this site. realized that the 60 second wait time between posts after I had double posted.

was on the phone with my dr. when I did all that, so a multi-tasking malfuntion.. lol

He told me there is disensus (sp?) in my cervix which means that there is a risk of a prolapse in the future, so it is best for me to have it removed. and truly, the idea of a mini-period or ANY period is not appealing to me.

Re: New with Post-op questions

Your doctor did not mislead you about removing your cervix as your cervix is the bottom part of your uterus and not really a separate part. So when he said he was removing your uterus, it includes the cervix. The bonus part is that you won't have a scar on your tummy.

Re: New with Post-op questions

I was so worried about sex, but it is just as good after surgery. Well, actually, better - I had started to get those after sex cramps and they got worse and worse over time, with usually some bleeding as well. NO MORE! It is such a relief, I can't even tell you. Of course, you may be tense and worried the first time after, but be patient with yourself and your body will adapt.

I realized this later. I honestly thought that the cervix and uterus were two different organs... sure am learning a lot!

WRT the scars, I, of course, don't want another, but I already have 4 (3 from emergency appendectomy and one from a c-section)

Re: New with Post-op questions

I had a radical hysterectomy feb 9 due to cervical cancer. I had my cervix, uterus, ovaries/tubes removed via the davinci robot. I am hitting my 5 week post op tomorrow. The only problem I have had is being tired, swelling and boredom. I flew from NY to SC 3 week post op. I had a lay over in Dulles and carried nothing but a light purse. I had people get my luggage on and off for me. Be careful at the birthday celebration not to lift anything more than a couple of pounds and be careful of reaching too, if I reached to far I felt pulling. Good luck to you!

Re: New with Post-op questions

Had a Da Vinci vaginal hysterectomy Jan 31st. Had uterus and cervix removed. My orgasms are more intense and easier to come by now

Re: New with Post-op questions

I had a da Vinci with everything removed. Sex/orgasms were a huge concern for me. I was 100000000% certain that I would have weaker orgasms because my pre op ones were so intense with uterine contractions. 3 weeks post op (with DR permission) I gave outercourse a try to test my orgasmic response. I had the - swear to God - bestest, most intense orgasm ever. Turns out, I never had uterine contractions. Whatever is contracting still does an amazing job. Since then, I have had my first multiple orgasms and they take almost no effort to achieve. It is true, if your sex life is already good, you should have no trouble post op. Sex is very much mental and surgery can't change that : ) Regarding your sweet one's B-day; I hosted a brunch for family two days after surgery with no problem. I, of course, did no cooking or cleaning but just ate and chatted. I made it about an hour and then excused myself to go lay down. I think you'll do as well as I. Good luck to you.
