Bladder Infection concerns

My TAH was on Feb. 27th. The doctor was able to remove (hopefully all) the endometriosis that was growing all over my parts. Both ovaries were removed, but my left ovary had to be unattached from my colon first. I was in the hospital from Monday to Thursday. The most pain I felt post-op was due to gas, not the incision at all. Walking helped more than anything else. My staples were removed before I left the hospital, thankfully. Everything has been going very well with my recovery- I have an appetite, I sleep well at night, nap often during the day, take my meds. on schedule, and have plenty of help. However, today I have that awful beginning of a bladder infection feeling; excessive pressure, frequency, and grumpiness (yes, that is one of my symptoms.) So far I have not felt burning. I guess this could be part of recovery or it could be a bladder infection. Is this common? I also have a red rash all over my abdomen with pin prick sized bumps. Any thoughts or advise would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Elvin

Re: Bladder Infection concerns

UTI's and Bladder Infections are very common after surgery due to the cath. If you think you have one starting it would be wise to get checked out by your doctor, just to be sure. I had many UTI symptoms and had my doc check 3 times during my first 6 weeks of recovery. I did not end up having an infection, but many people do. In fact, this was the first time after surgery that I did not have an infection, I usually get one every time!

That said, the bladder can take some time before it begins to settle down after this surgery. I do not think it appreciates how it is treated during the surgery itself and complains very loudly! I think I was almost 6 weeks post op before peeing felt any where near normal.

As far athe rash on your abdomen it could be number of things. It could just be a reaction to the tape or surgical stuff, might be a reaction to the pain meds, could be something like a heat rash. IF it gets worse or is really bothersome chat with your doctor, it might be that some benedryl will help it calm down, or cool compresses.

Recovery can be a bear and it is not for the faint of heart! Hang in there, it gets better!
