Discharge after surgery

I am having uterus and cervix removed... I have heard that I may lose ALL/most normal vaginal discharge after I am all healed... to the point that some women have to use lube every time they have sex. So no daily discharge either.
Just curious, thanks!

Re: Discharge after surgery

Hi Happy2bMrsP....I had my da vinci hysterectomy 4 days ago and I wasn't told I would lose all vaginal discharge but would need to use lube to have sex. For me I don't mind...I had alot of vaginal discharge everyday and had to wear panty liners everyday. So I am actually hoping this is true. I too had my cervix removed and so far post-op haven't had any discharge. ") Good luck with your surgery You will do great!

Re: Discharge after surgery

I can only tell you my experience with this....I have noticed a decrease in daily discharge since my surgery, but I do not need to use lubrication during sex. It is my understanding that your natural lubricant for sex is related to your hormones, so it could be possible that it could be affected if you have your ovaries removed. I had mine removed but I haven't had any problems, but that is just me. Everyone is different. You might speak to your about this to get some clarification on what to expect.

Re: Discharge after surgery

I spoke to my doctor about this pre-op. She said since I'm keeping my ovaries, I would have no problem with maintaining my natural discharge. I asked her, does it come through the cervix? What will happen when the cervix is gone? And she said it is secreted through the vaginal walls.

I am 8 months post TVH (kept ovaries) and I notice no difference at all with my natural lubrication. I used lube the first couple times we had sex post-op, but don't need to use it now.
