Finally post op visit and started the Vivelle dot 0.1 ?s about the dot

I am now 22 days post op and went for my 1st post op visit. Still have the swelly belly and the car ride was rough (pot holes) My doctor did an exam and said everything looked and felt good, things were healing great. Surprisingly he cleared me for sex but said to go easy. Still no using the vacuum, heavy lifting, and no stair climbing since my balance is still off some, and driving until I can handle the car ride first. Told me to listen to my body and dont over do it, still need rest. So I am glad to hear I can start gradually going into my old routine just be smart about it. Over the last week I have been having major hot flashes, terrible night sweats with little sleep and starting to feel irritability set in. The increased by each day, yesterday I bet I had a hot flash every 30 minutes. Some I was so red, labored breathing, felt like my heart was pounding, and the night sweats was like sleeping in the bath tub. I expressed my concern and told my doctor I need something now.
He started me on Vivelle dot 0.1mg twice weekly. I have done some research on the dot. I was surprised to start off with a high dosage but with the hot flashes like I had been having I truly dont think a low dose would have done a thing for me. I do feel comfortable about the dot being bio-identical but I was wondering shouldnt we still be getting some form of progesterone? I did have a total hysterectomy and ovaries removed too. I have read dangerous about taking estrogen with progesterone and the dangerous of not taking it together. I have heard some say with out it they were a mess and very weepy. Plus had weight gain, which I do not want by any means. I am so lucky that I have lost weight since surgery and need to loose more do not want to gain it. The vivelle dot seems to be the number 1 choice for most doctors. Can anyone else give me some feed back about their experience? Is weight gain a given, long does it take for the hot flashes and night sweats to stop, what about a over the counter progesterone form would it help or be dangerous? This is such a huge learning experience and I want so badly to get on the right track and feel good again.

Hi!! I started the patch day 1 of surgery...exactly the same dose as you. I had hot flashes and night sweats for the first 3 days or so, and then those pretty much stopped. I'm still warm ALL the time, but it's manageable. I was REALLY emotional for the first couple of weeks and the doc. increased my dose even more, which helped a bit, but my breasts were sore and since then I have gone back to .1mg twice a week Still weepy here and there, but so much better. My doctor said that we'll reevaluate my HRT in 2 months and add progesterone if necessary at that time, but for me, so far so good.

I'm NO expert, so I hope you get some more info from others that are further along in this then me...but I'm happy with my progress so far.

HUGS :-)

Re: Finally post op visit and started the Vivelle dot 0.1 ?s about the dot

Another ? concerning the Vivelle dot patch. Did anyone experience odd feelings when they first started the dot? Today was my first day and I took it around 7pm. I did noticed it made me feel hyped up like an energy pill or drink would do. Kind of jittery feeling and a little tight in the top part of my chest, around the bronchial area, not down by the heart. I did take my BP and the top number was fine the bottom number was a little high. I usually run any where from 178/74 to 144/84 depending on what is going on. It was 130 over 95 and that concerned me. I am very nervous about taking estrogen by itself. I do smoke and heart disease is in the family. I know I need to do a complete turn with my health and plan when my body is ready. I just wondered if anyone else felt strange feelings at first? Oh I did have a couple of hot flashes but I can tell they a milder then earlier today and especially yesterday. Now to see if I can sleep tonight

Re: Finally post op visit and started the Vivelle dot 0.1 ?s about the dot

I have heard from several others about the weepy part, fatigue and weight gain. I think I can handle the weepy part better then the feeling of wanting to rip someone's head off. lol The weight gain does bother me, I am finally getting close to where I need to be, just 20 lbs to go and it has been a struggle. I have notice I my temp kind goes up and down. Over all I have been comfortable but do feel warmer but I am getting tired and now freezing. Its really weird but much better then burning up.
So no complaining about the cold spells. I know this will take time to figure things out. I just have this feeling progesterone like from the health food store would help balance things out, help with moods especially.
thank you for your response Meka
