Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

congrats on your surgery! you're on your way to total recovery. Walking a little help with the gas pain. Of course, you will want to take gas-x pills as well. For the incision pain, maybe try putting an ice pack on your tummy - it might help numb the pain. the cold on my back and tummy helped me a lot!
Happy Healing!

Cold packs helped me a lot...
try only eating food that would be low on the gas creator such as bread, rice and apple sauce... basically a BRAT diet.. Banana, rice, apple, and toast..

Drink lots of water... It helps break up gas...

I know it is hard but it will go away soon and your healing will go quicker...

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

Hello Sister,
I found that alternating hot and cold packs helped with the swelling as well as pain. Don't forget to take your pain medications as prescribed and walk, walk, walk, to ease the gas pains.

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

make sure you keep on top of the pain meds meaning if they say every 4 hours then take it every 4 hours this way you will be on top of the pain, wear lose clothing that does not rub against your incision...does it hurt to touch or just aches cause its there? if it doesnt get better call the dr or er and ask for a way to deal with pain management

Is the incision red? or hot compared to the surrounding area? is there a discharge? or smell? if any of those are present it could be an infection - if it is an infection definitely go into er or call dr, if not sure but think it might be again i would call

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

Mine was done on the 6th. So far ice and walking helps. Gas-X too!!!! And they don't lie when they say stay on top of the pain meds. I found laying on my left side helps relieve gas pain as well. And take those stool softeners!!
Hope this helps!

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

I took and still use a capful of Miralax or its generic is fine, and 3 Dulcolax capsules. You can take up to 3 capsules a day, and I take mine all at once. This combo works. Have never gotten backed up. Used ice packs in early phase. All the best. Hope you get some relief. It does get better.Slowly, but better.

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

I am also 3 days post op today. I had a PAH/BSO on the 6th of March. I have to say the gas hasn't been bad for me because I have had abdominal surgery before so I knew how to tackle it. If you lean over a chair back a few times a day you will move that gas around. Also walk around as often as you can without over doing it. GasX will help you too. Make sure to take your pain pills exactly as prescribed or you will hurt worse and won't be able to get the pain under control. Good luck to you and hang in there... it won't last much longer!

Re: Post-op day 3 after surgery

I started taking phillips stool softeners in the hospital the day after surgery. And today, 3 days later, they worked. It sure is nice to be able to go. Good luck to you!!
