Anxiety and fear...??

Is ths expected I have never felt so afraid and anxious before. Are these feelings normal? has everyone who have had surgery felt this way, is anyone going through the same anxiety and fears as I? These will be the longest five day of my life Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

First off take a few deep breaths and realize that being afraid is normal but you do not have to let it rule your life.
Take a long bath and cry it out. Sometimes we bottle our fears and to let it all out helps.
Make sure you get some sleep... hard I know but the more sleep you have the better things will seem...
Take a few moments to take in some long cleansing breaths.
But most of all keep telling yourself that you are doing this to get healthy and life will get better afterwards...

Perfectly natural.
Just remember that God loves you.
Say your prayers, and I will pray for you!
You will be fine!

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

You're very normal. The week before surgery is the hardest part. Keep busy, clean house, and go on outings with your family. You won't be up for doing much for a while post op. Be kind to yourself, this is a stressful time. Remember we are always here for you.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Hi Seriangely,

I think the majority of us has gone through all of those feelings before the surgery.
My friend had her surgery 3 weeks before I did, and she was excited and not fearful at all, she was looking forward to beginning hernew life without pain.
Pray alot and ask God to help you get through it and he will. Think positive thoughts and prepare so when you get home you can rest and relax and heal.
I am 8 weeks post op and all is going well. I hope that you have a speedy recovery.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Hi Seriangely,
My surgery is scheduled for the 21st and I am feeling the same emotions - each day feels different. I am trying to get my home life and work life in order trying to avoid any 'issues' that could come up. But realistically I know I don't have control of everything. I can only prepare as much as I can.

Sending many prayers to you next week and knowing you are not alone (with the beautiful women on this site and God watching over you) is the best comfort in the world!

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

I am having surgery Monday morning. I am very scared. Dont know how I will be after surgery and reading that some people takes weeks for post op healing. I am thinking one week at most not weeks. I run a business and cant be out for weeks. If I can make it to my computer would be great. I see some women appear to be very tired after hysterectomy? why is this? I am very afraid of the pain and If I will be able to handle it.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

I remember getting my IV in and doubting if I did the right thing! It is very normal to be fearful of the unknown. I would like to to say it gets better, but now I am waiting on my pathology report!

Just hang in there!

BTW, the pain is very manageable. However, I did not realize how tired I would be!

Rosemary,
I'm not sure your hope of a one week recovery is realistic. This is really major surgery and unfortunately it's not a quick recovery. At the end of my first week I still couldn't sit at my computer. I returned to my desk job at 8 weeks. I only went in every other day and it was very difficult. Fatigue is a huge issue for the ladies on the post op threads. I think it's because it's such a major surgery with a lot of healing to do. So much of our energy goes into our healing tissues that there isn't much left for anything else. You will probably need a couple weeks at least. I really hope all goes well for you.
