Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Thanks ladies for your comments. My surgery is March 22nd...on my birthday. How is that for a celebration? I too am dealing with anxiousness and all the questions about pain, healing and the unknown. I know it is normal to feel this way but it is not my normal self. Little things now seem to bother me so much more. Prayers, my good friends and listening to my cd of hymns help. I am blessed to have caring family, friends and this network of hystersisters. I never had a sister but through this website I understand what a sister blessing is. I pray for you all.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Same issues here...anxiety - a little....but, ready to get it over with! Dealing with work and a teenager, trying to make sure things are ready for my big day is a bit overwhelming and seems to be getting worse everday. My surgery is a week from tomorrow...hope I can get back to my desk job after the 2nd week. Am I dreaming??? Please tell me...I've heard I will need to be out at least 3-4 weeks, but just thinking I can sit at the desk just like I can at home. Who knows??? Prayer helps and knowing I have the most wonderful husband, son and family will get me through it! Never had any type of major surgery, just some laparscopic surgery for endometriosis and ovarian cysts. Looking forward to being pain free!

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

I have TAH scheduled for May and I am feeling ovewhelmed as well. I plan to take 7 weeks off from work but will need to return in full swing after the 7 weeks. I am self-employed. Is this realistic?

In preparation for the surgery, I have implemented a 5-day workout routine, changed my diet, and eliminated alcohol. My goal is to lose 10 pounds prior to surgery and put my body in the best position for a speedy recovery.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Hello,

Nice to have a sister to share with. I too am trying to get my body ready and am proud of you for starting your routine. I am riding my exercise bike every night. I think it helps me use up that anxious energy. The losing weight for me is easy. When I am anxious I don't want to eat very much. Good luck to you...to us.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

So glad you're safely on the other side. And very sorry to hear you're laying there in pain. A shortage of pain meds!? I've never heard of such a thing. Especially since you're surgery was scheduled ahead of time.

Your only job now is to rest and heal and get your bowels moving. I will look for your posts in the Post Op Forum.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

Yes they said their was a national shortage of teradol(?) I think this is the name a pain medication that is commonly used. ONe thing I know is it is really nice if you can have someone stay with you in the hospital to make sure you get pain meds on time. The first 3 days are the worst. I know that my circumstance was different due to the fact that I lost alot of blood as they were removing the two large fibroids. they gave me 4 pints of blood and now as a result I am anemic. I have to say it does get better everyday. The pain is tolerable. The first week is difficult but now I am about 11 days out and I am feeling better everyday. I worked a few hours today but now resting. I was very scared just as everyone else is but remember that medical technology has come a long way. Hysterectomies are performed everyday. You have to just Have faith in God and know that everything will work out. You only have so much control. Get the surgery done asap so you have less time to think about it. I am so thankful this is behind me and the anxiety and preparation in advance is so much worse than the actual surgery. I did get alot of information in advance. I have B12 patches which I think are great. I also have that pillow that is suppose to make you cool but I really did not notice a difference. Just make sure you have lots of pillows. I also bought one of those binders but honestly you will not want any type of restrictions on your stomach after having this surgery. I am happy this thing is out of me. I look forward to no more periods or heavy bleeding!!! I still have one of my ovaries so hopefully will prevent me from going into full menopause I have not noticed any difference.

Re: Anxiety and fear...??

My TAH is coming up on Tuesday morning (03.27.12), and I have had the same anxious feelings, even having dreams/nightmares that I'm drowning.. That said, all the advice here is so great.. I've kept fairly busy, and still have a lot to do this weekend (thankfully) to keep my mind focused elsewhere.

I cried my eyes out this afternoon (heaving sobs), and finally admitted that I wish I didn't have to do this. I know that it will be well worth it in the long run, and I'm really trying to focus on that, but I allowed myself to feel the hurt, pain, frustration and fear today. It was a great relief to "Let go and let God" take care of it all. I'm still nervous, but not experiencing the panic that I've had the last couple of days.. for now
