Belly Button Incision Not Healing

Hi, I had a supracervical lap hysterectomy with RSO on 2/22/12. My belly button incision does not seem to be healing as well as the other 3 incisions. There is a red ring around it and it looks wet. The wetness is clear and it is sore to the touch. I have been cleaning it with hydrogen peroxide and putting antibiotic ointment on it twice a day.Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone have any suggestions whether I should see the dr again? I saw him 1 week post op and don't have to go back for 3 months, in June. Thanks for your help!

Re: Belly Button Incision Not Healing

Did the doctor tell you to use hydrogen peroxide and the antibiotic ointment? I am asking because hydrogen peroxide damages new cells and can prevent healing. However, in spite of this, some doctors still tell their patients to do this so it must work for them.

In any case, if your incision is sore, I would definitely suggest you go back to the doctor and have him look at it as it is probably infected.

I agree, if it is still red and sore you probably should at least give your doctor a call and let them know what it looks like and how it feels.

Re: Belly Button Incision Not Healing

Thank you for responding so quickly. Yes, the doctor did tell me to use the hydrogen peroxide and antibiotic ointment. But I think I will give the office a call and make an appt. I don't know why my next appt is 3 months after surgery. I was shocked when he told me that. I was thinking he would want to check out the incisions and me at least one more time before going back to work. I was wrong.
