i think it is happening...

For the last two nights, I have woken up drenched in sweat. I just had my surgery on the 6th. I had both ovaries removed. Could this be menopause? It is miserable. I have been goggling things. This is all new to me. What else is in store? My doctor acted like I might not have any 'issues.' Well, i consider this an issue! Trying to hunt down pj's in the middle of the night, while in the dark, that match is challenging! I can't go back to bed after all of that because the sheets are wet. So I am out in my chair.

Re: i think it is happening...

It is quite likely that it is menopause. However, make sure you check your temperature as it could also be a fever ie possible infection. If your temperature is normal, you probably need to discuss HRT with your doctor.

Re: i think it is happening...

Your doctor didn't explain much to you - doesn't sound very competent to me! Yes, once your ovaries are removed you start menopause. I agree with Zany56, you should look into HRT. Good luck!

Re: i think it is happening...

Yep, I started within 2 days of coming home from the hospital. I now get hot flashes too. Those are no fun either. I am sleeping on the sheet with a fan trying to control them. Hopefully your doctor can give you hormones (I can't have any since I have to have chemo). Good luck.

Re: i think it is happening...

it is happening and unfortunately some drs do not give enough info others take a wait and see approach as they want to see if your hormones will settle out...check out thishttps://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/view_menopause.htm
for a list of some symptoms

There is also a forum on here called https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/forumdisplay.php?f=111

this one is for questions regarding about menopause https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/forumdisplay.php?f=237

try and find a dr that will work with you in finding a solution.

as for night sweats/ hot flashes, I sleep in the nude (i know ) and use a fan then if i get hot i can remove covers as needed , I find drinking lots of water helps keep it cool, or helps alleviates the symptoms during the day

to be honest i no longer have night sweats after the surgery but before I did and i do have hot flashes now and sometimes i go into the freezer at work or outside for a moment not looking forward to summer lol

Re: i think it is happening...

Nite sweats can happen after any major surgery. Its one way for your body to get rid of all the anesthesia and meds. When i had my galbladder removed i had night sweats then too. I had my surgery on the sixth as well, but kept my left ovary. Heres hoping it'll keep up with the hormones...good luck!

Re: i think it is happening...

Thanks for the replies! I honestly don't know what I would do without this site. I was on my period last Sunday and Tuesday I had my hysterectomy and on Friday I started to have night sweats! This has been overwhelming on so many levels. I guess I didn't realize that things would start happening so quick. My doctor didn't give me that impression. Once I get my pathology report back, I can make more of an informed decision.

Re: i think it is happening...

I had my hysterectomy Feb 29th, and hot flashes set in about 2 or 3 days later... I am experiencing night sweats, but I'm not having them every night. For the most part, it's a random warmness that comes over me, but nothing major. I had read that menopausal symptoms varied in women after a total hysterectomy, depending on weight/estrogen stored in the body, so it could take up to two or three weeks for the symptoms to hit. I'm overweight by about 25 pounds, I was surprised that I was hit as early as I was. I have not found the symptoms to be unbearable, yet. I'm just kind of confused on how long this will last.
