Weight loss anyone after Hysterectomy???

I'm scheduled for my surgery on March 21, 2012, I have done lots of research and I've read that many woman have lost weight after their surgery. Wondering how true this is. I have 3 fibroids one of which is 12 cm and my uterus is "26 weeks pregnant". Just curious if I will lose any weight and if my tummy will shrink after the removal of my large invaders.

Thanks ladies

Re: Weight loss anyone after Hysterectomy???

I lost a little bit, not right away but after a few days, and have kept it off. It's surprising to me, with so much sitting around, relaxing, and people bringing me treats. I thought I'd be gaining! Crossing my fingers that it doesn't catch up with me.

Re: Weight loss anyone after Hysterectomy???

I have lost 4lbs in 6 days. I think mine is more the fact that my appetite still isn't 100% and I was a bit dehydrated at first. I'm hoping to keep it off though. I'm still very swollen and look about 6 months pregnant..I'm hoping another week will take care of that. Good luck!

Re: Weight loss anyone after Hysterectomy???

I am at 6 weeks and have lost a total of 14 pounds. I really don't have that great of an appetite after the surgery. I get full really quickly. Had my post-op today and they weren't concerned with the weight loss. I feel great and have had an easy recovery.
OK, don't think I am crazy but I was wondering how much everything weighed that they took out. Look on your pathology report, it lists the total weight of everything removed. Mine was not quite a pound and that was a full hysterectomy. I was thinking it must be at least 3 or 4 lbs.

Re: Weight loss anyone after Hysterectomy???

My fibroids and uterus were also less than a pound.

I've lost 10 pounds and will at 10 weeks tomorrow. I used the surgery as an opportunity to eliminate some bad habits from my diet - a nightly glass of wine, daily starbuck latte, sugar and refined carbs in general. I knew going in that I would have a loss of appetite the first week or so, so I decided to take advantage of it. Interestingly, I continue to not feel real hungry and I have no craving for sweets nor an urge to overeat. I started counting calories in the last few weeks and the weight continues to come off pound by pound and I haven't even started exercising yet. While you don't want to diet during recovery, you need to be mindful of the fact that you will not be burning many calories and not sit around eating all day.
