Foods to eat after hysterectomy

I am thinking ahead to after my surgery in April and I wondered what foods that will help the digestive and the BM? I know plenty of water and fiber, but what else? I have some ideas; like yogurt and oatmeal, to name some, but what else?

Forgot to mention..I do get gas pretty easy after eating certain foods, so I tend to avoid those. I still get gas anyways...So I guess getting maylox, mylanta, metamucil will help too....

Re: Foods to eat after hysterectomy

I eat a bowl of raisin bran every morning and have since my surgery 3 weeks ago. I also snack on apples and fiber one bars. I have avoided spicy food and anything with beans just to be on the safe side. Gas-x has been great when I do get a bubbly tummy. I have been drinking a glass of water with miralax twice a day and taking one stool softener at lunch. All that has kept me pretty regular, even with the occasional pain pill.

Stay away from carbonated beverages! I drank lots and lots of decaf green tea with honey (my throat was pretty sore after surgery from the breathing tube) I agree with Christine about the raisin bran. The yogurt is a good idea, Activia really seems to work best helping with regularity. I also ate lots of mashed potatoes! If you stay away from spicy, greasy, gassy foods and cheesy foods, you should be ok.

Re: Foods to eat after hysterectomy

I agree that carbonated beverages should be avoided initially, but be careful if you are used to drinking soda daily. Make sure to drink a glass of iced tea or a cup of coffee to get that caffeine, or you might find yourself with a horrible caffeine-withdrawal headache. I did! It was right around day 3 that I was wondering why I was having severe headaches around lunchtime every day. I figured it was the medication. It dawned on me it was lack of caffeine. After a small soda, the headache vanished. I had no idea caffeine has that much effect. Scary! I only have a cup of coffee with breakfast and a 12oz soda at lunch. That is it, and I still had a withdrawal from lack of it. yikes!!!
The yogurt is an excellent idea.
