How long does Foggy Brain last?

I'm on day 6 after my TVH and I'm mostly feeling good. I have never slept so much in my life - 10 1/2 hrs at night plus two naps a day - but I'm not really having pain. I'm not taking pain meds - just 600 mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hrs. But I can't get past this foggy brain. I had lined up all kinds of reading and projects to work on during my recovery but I can't focus on any one thing for more than 10 minutes at a time. I'm really not even interested in TV. I've played countless games of words with friends and I'm going bonkers. How long is this going to last?

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

Unfortunately, it can hang on for quite awhile. Everyone is different, but I had trouble concentrating and my vision was even blurry for about 2-3 weeks. It does get better though.

You will sleep A LOT in the weeks to come. You will find that you tire very easily, so listen to your body. When it tells you to rest, rest. You need that rest to heal.

Hope you are able to do some of your projects soon.

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

Oh yay I thought it was just me I am three weeks out today, and have been stuck on stupid since I got home! I go to the grocery store and can't remember why I'm there, I cannot focus on the projects I want to get done at home, I seriously have been online or watching TV all day long. I was wondering if it was normal, so glad to see it is! On the plus side, I do feel better this week than last, so it must be getting better!

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

Isn't it frustrating? I think it must be from the anesthesia. Hopefully it will clear up soon for us.

I have "teh stupid" and I am at 5 weeks. I think every bit of my energy is going towards healing my insides, not to my brain.

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

Yup. Had a whole list of books to read and e courses to complete and haven't managed any of it. On the bright side, I have caught up on a year's worth of Vanity Fair because they are mostly pictures. Can't even make it through a whole movie. How on earth would I manage work? I can't imagine.

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

Oh thank you for your responses! I really thought I might be able to go back to work at 2 weeks but I think I would cause more trouble than I would be worth. Some friends just gave me an Amazon gift card so I could read during my recovery - not yet!

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

I couldn't read until about week three - then I read the hunger games trilogy, which is an easy read because it's young adult - highly recommended if you just want an easy, fast read that will keep you engaged and your mind off your woes

Re: How long does Foggy Brain last?

I'm at 2 weeks and doing pretty well- I can focus well enough to drive, but I still feel like a space cadet a few times a day. I did basically sleep for the entire first week, and I get sleepy easily now.

It is probably different for all of us. Hang in there!
