Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

Hello ladies. I am 8 days out of a TAH and my symptoms seems to be the opposite of what I am reading. For example, I had my first BM on day 2 and have had 3 BMs everyday since. At first it was like diarrhea but now my stools are solid. I can no longer sleep during the day but I do sleep through the night. My whole abdomen is still very sore (
I take 2.5mg morphine 4x a day, it's the only pain killer I can take). My appetite is the best it has been since I can remember. I eat 3 meals a day plus a snack before bedtime to take my meds. But I am so slow to walk and taking a shower still requires a lot of help from my mom. I also find that I can't sit straight or lay flat. It is so uncomfortable. When I am not walking, I spend my time laying propped up in bed by a gazillion pillows. Did anybody else have a recovery like mine? I know it sounds great but is it normal?

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

Every recovery is different so don't beat yourself up if yours appears to be not on the same timeline as others. You sound like you are handling things well and taking good care of yourself. You are very fortunate to not have any difficulties in the BM department! I am sorry you had to go through this at such a young age.

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

Thanks. I like to think of all the years of no periods I will have compared to other ladies. It still doesn't seem real to me. No periods. Wow. Thank you for your support. I think I will just continue to heal at my rate because you are so right, everyone is different!

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

I agree everyone is different, so don't worry. I also cannot lay flat, I sleep propped up with pillows and my abdomen is very sore but still very swollen too. I was feeling great and did too much & now walking is difficult for me. Just listen to your body, rest, and heal.

You sound pretty similar to how I was at that stage in my recovery.

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

Thank you ladies, you make me feel normal. I can't wait for this feeling of "I just cannot get comfortable" to go away. I'm not in pain, just wish I could be comfortable for more than an hour at a time!

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

Hi, I had my surgery on 3/6 TAH for more than 12 fibroids. I had a very hard time moving especially the first few days. I have been moving better each day, however I have had to learn the hard way to try and take it easy even if I am feeling better. I get up and walk about the house and sit in different places, my soreness is still there but not as bad. As for the swelling, I have been using ice gel packs throughout the day on a daily basis, that has helped a lot. I also had a very very hard time with all pain meds, I am only taking ibuprofen 800mg, up 3 x's daily. Drink lots of water to rehydrate and use the ice, it may make a huge difference . Good Luck.

Re: Post-Op Day 8, Are my symptoms odd?

My recovery was uneventful but not as smooth as your. As stated, everyone is different. I can remember the uncomfortable feeling. Some days I miss being able to relax and watch daytime tv but the weeks fly by so fast. Remember to be gentle with yourself even if you feel good. It matters. Kudos on the bowel movements too. That's awesome! : )

Thank you ladies. I am starting to feel more comfortable these days but still taking it easy. Also I can stay awake for hours at a time! Such a novel concept!
