Surgery 3/20/2012

I am having LAVH on 3/20/02. Hoping my nerves will settle down. Any info is appreciated along with support. This is very scary for me, since my mother and grandmother had major complications with their TAH.

Re: Surgery 3/20/2012

Hi There! I don't talk much on here - more of a reader right now, but I am having surgery on the 20th too. Knowing that someone is having the same thing on the same day helps

Re: Surgery 3/20/2012

I'm scheduled for 3/19 and am nervous too. It is comforting that MOST of the stories I've read have been positive and that I have a friend that had a hysterectomy several years ago (total removal of uterus/cervix with retention of ovaries) who is VERY happy she had it done and had no complications. Someone who posted in another forum noted that you are more likely to hear "bad" stories on boards like this because the women who had problem-free experiences are less likely to seek/need support. There is truth to that, I believe!

Re: Surgery 3/20/2012

Hi Ladies,
I am 2 weeks post op, I had the da vinci robotic assisted hyst on 2/28. I kept both ovaries. For the most part I am doing very well. I know several women who have had this type of surgery and everyone heals differently. My co-worker bounced back very quickly and was back to work in 8 days. Unbelievable I know but true. Me... on the other hand, no thanks. I have not bounced back that quick but I do feel like I am headed in the right direction. Each day I feel better and better.
I do plan to go back to work next week (starting out half days). This will put me at the 3 week mark.
My family is very supportive and I've become "one" with our new sofa/recliner. Take it easy, rest, and drink plenty of fluids. I believe it's all about baby steps. Don't try to heal too fast, it takes time. You will feel better on the outside, but you're insides are still healing. Be patient and be pampered.
Hugs and prayers for all of you!

I know it is scary for all of us. I appreciate the support. It really means alot. Even though I am no longer having kids it is emotional closing that door.

Re: Surgery 3/20/2012

I am 2 days post op and many sisters had said the waiting is the hardest part!! So true. I also understand the emotional part of losing your uterus...some friends said "well you are done having kids" and I wanted to scream at them! Its not about the kids its hard to explain...still sad.

I have a high pain tolerance so have not needed pain killers, only motrin. My surgery was half the estimated time, so that worked out. I told anyone who would listen that I got naseous with anastesia and they loaded me up good and even gave me a patch. So never got sick. Felt alittle queazy a few times...but kept drinking water water water. I am uncomfortable sitting long periods so getting up and walking in my house. Restless to sleep but napping a lot during the maybe when the naps stop I will sleep better at night. Get a grabber!! My hubby picked one up...and not 5 minutes after the kids got on the bus and he went to work (I told him I wanted tobe alone and rest) I dropped the stupid tv clicker! That would have made for a long day! My handy grabber was a God send. Overall my DvH has been easier than I expected but still very sore. One thing Iam petrified of is a BM but I havent eatten much all week...but I started taking a stool softener today...guess it cant hurt!! You can do this! Good luck! OX

Re: Surgery 3/20/2012

I am one day behind you & nerves are starting now... I've talked to many people & for the most part they are all saying it's the best thing they ever did. I think we just need to take care of ourselves after & not jump the gun to get back to normality before we are ready!
