Re: preop today, bowel prep?

I had my preop today and I thought it was a little extreme. My surgery is Monday the 26th. I have magnesium citrate, miralax, and enema all on Sunday spread throughout the I went ahead and bought wipes for the area so hopefully I don't get raw. I'm super sensitive so I'm hoping I won't have to deal with that hurting after surgery too. I was also told to take a stool softener sun night and then Monday after surgery take 2 more. Needless to say my Walmart purchase had the cashier giggling because of the mass amounts of spring cleaning goodies!!! But I threw a bag of m and m's in for good measure. I wasn't nervous until my preop this morning. Now I'm so nervous. I have to find a robe sometime before then. I was instructed to buy one which I don't think is fair. Why can't I just have an extra gown for coverup? Okay I'll get off of my soapbox now. Thanks for listening :-)

Re: preop today, bowel prep?

Bless you. My surgery is tomorrow and I have the enema tonight. Ounds like you will be cleaner than I will. Tomorrow I have an iodine shower and a medicated douche. I bought a night gown yesterday and maybe I can find a robe later today. We shop at the same place...good old Wal-mart. I am nervous too. Thanks for listening too me too.

Re: preop today, bowel prep?

It is not bad at all. I was on a liquid diet and had to drink two bottles of magnesium citrate and take about 12 antibiotic pills. About an hour after the pills, I would get real nauseous and throw up. I threw up twice that day. I was nervous about it, because I was still passing stool on the morning of surgery. The nurse assured me that they wanted the majority of the bowel clean and that if I was not passing clear fluid, it was okay. Whew, because I did not want them to cancel my surgery.

Re: preop today, bowel prep?

My bowel prep was pretty extreme too, the dulcolax in the morning, liquid diet, 2 bottles of mediprep starting at 2pm and then douche and enema 2 hours prior to leaving for the hospital the next morning. My doc said she wanted everything very clean and like someone else mentioned, I've had no constipation or bowel isdues afterwards. It also makes things easier should there be any repairs necessary in that area Hang in there, I really found getting the mediprep down was the hardest part! I found hemmroid ointment and Tucks pads helped me tremendously, along with the baby wipes

On another note - I never used a robe during my hospital stay, once in my room, they gave me a much better gown that secured on the side instead of in the back to sleep in and then I changed into my own clothes the next morning - oversized pajama pants and a great big ol' comfy t-shirt of my hubby's

Re: preop today, bowel prep?

Good luck with yalls surgeries!!!! I'll be thinking about y'all! The robe isn't a must, but she "highly recommended it for walking in the hospital". So I found one on a website with two day shipping for 14.00. I also bought a pretty white dress and some white Capri pants and hung them on my dresser for a reminder that it's all worth it. My DH about fell over when he opened my wal mart bag and say my stuff. He said "you should have a fuuuuuuuunnnnnn day on Sunday!". Such a turd!

Re: preop today, bowel prep?

Had the bowel prep, light diet three days before , Liquid diet until 2 pm then the dreaded citrate. nothing to eat or drink after midnight, surgery at 1:00pm. Two things come to mind. When the citrate really hit, I was away from the bathroom. I was panicked and ran for the door, tripped and fell, hitting my head on the door......creased my scalp...minor but lots of blood plus "the other". Moral, when it hits it is unbelievable. Do Not Move From Bathroom. I was supposed to be thru with it by 8:00 pm but was not. Last dose was at about 10:00 pm. Problem is that the citrate is still with me three days after very successful surgery. I could stand just a tiny touch of constipation. Nurse endorsed Imodium.

I would get in touch with your doctor's office and check to see if someone forgot to tell you.
