Re: Anyone on a synthetic estrogen patch?

greyown, your right! The Alora estradiol patch is bioidentical in that it is chemically identical to the estradiol that the ovaries produce. cool.

I stumbled upon an article in the August 2006 Harvard's Women's Health Watch news letter. It had a chart of all the hormones by brand, what the type and source of the estrogen is, the form it comes in, and whether or not it is bioidentical. It said doctors can be as confused about hormones as their patients.

From the article "Much of the confusion about bioidentical hormones comes from the mistaken notion that they must be custom-mixed at a compounding pharmacy."

I think that is what my doctor thought.

Thanks again for the info, grayown!

Re: Anyone on a synthetic estrogen patch?

Would you please reply back after you've tried the patch for a week or two? I am 35 and was just diagnosed with PCOS. My dr is giving me the option to try the estrogen patch, but I am nervous about it. I had to be on progesterone before my hysterectomy and it made me more moody than usual and very irritable. I am hoping that estrogen will do the opposite!!!
Thanks for this post - it is helping me with my research.

Hi Rabianco,

I am holding off on trying the patch. I have been finding relief from anxiety, insomnia and hot flashes through weekly acupuncture and Chinese herbs. My acupuncturist gave me herbs specifically for addressing menopausal symptoms. The formula he put me on is Gan Mai Da Zao Wan.

So far so good.

Luckily we have a community acupuncture clinic where I live which means I can afford weekly acupuncture which really helps when it comes to managing these symptoms. Community acupuncture clinics don't require any income verification and you pay sliding scale fees for $15-$40 a session. You can google, "community acupuncture" to find the website that lists the clinics around the country. Of course that is assuming you are in the US. I don't know what is available in other countries.

Anyway, I can understand why you would be nervous. Best of luck to you and to all of us!

I hope you find something that works for you, loris!

That has got to be so frustrating. Let us know how it goes!
