I'm only 10 days past surgery so I'll answer what I know from my own experience. Every one is different so you may have a different one.

1) I have had some bowel problems. They are getting better and the main problem is just getting that first one out. It was quite an effort, especially since you are not allowed to "push". It has been getting better.
Bladder has been fine.

2) I don't know about the sex drive part. I'm not there yet.

3) If they take out both of your ovaries then you will go into menopause for sure. If they leave them in some people have said they did have symptoms for a bit but then they went away. I have 1 ovary left and so far I haven't had any symptoms but that could change.
You might gain a bit a of weight right after surgery. That's usually due to the fluids they give you and the swelling (you may not get too much swelling). I personally got a lot of bruising, even had some show up 3 days later!

Re: i need answers plz help

Im 10 days out and i am ready for sex already. Lol at least in my head. I have even messed around a bit with my bf. I have heard its very indavidual i was worried about losing my labido too. If things take a turn for me i plan on looking into testosterone cream. I am worried about weight gain as well i am only 4 lbs heavier than i went into surgery and still have a lot of swelling. i am walking as much as is healthy for me, its good tto relieve the gas frim surgery and to stretch out your stomach muscles so they dont get so tight you cant ealk up right

Re: i need answers plz help

I am 5 days post op. Bowels worked day 2...was elated to get that over with! Although I had no appetite for first few days...when I did eat I felt like after thanksgiving 3rd plate! Alittle stomach achey every bathroom visit. But today was a perfect visit just like normal. Drink tons of water and eat little meals even if you are not hungry. My bladder is ok, I think I have never peed so much! Sometimes its uncomfortable like 1st thing in am overfull...but I think its getting better.

Can not answer sex questions yet...and weight gain...well I am alittle swollen, but wearing all my regular pants and undies.

Can say the worst part is the waiting and as soon as you are in recovery really are on the road to recovery! Good luck! OX

Re: i need answers plz help

1 month post op from LSH here. Kept ovaries.

No bowel or bladder problems after my surgery but it did take 4 days for 1st bm due to the full bowel prep before. Drank a ton, added benefiber and ate a couple of prunes each day.

No problems with sex drive or sex -- it is different but good since I no longer have pain during or after! And it is getting better each time.

No menopause but did have a few hot flashes the first week. But had all the symptoms of my period when it was due except the pain and bleeding.

All is good.

Re: i need answers plz help

I had Vaginal Hyst in 2010, RSO in 2011, and LSO in 2012. I started taking colace about a week or so before surgery. It helps to soften your stool which will make it easier to push out without straining. My sex drive has never been better. It doesn't hurt anymore. After I had my RSO, I did not have any signs of menopause~everyone is different though! I recently had my LSO and the doctor started me on the Vivelle-Dot patch. I have been using it for a month and so far no problems! Do not hesitate to talk to your doctor if you start to have symptoms of menopause or if you libido is decreased. There are plenty of options out there to help! I have lost weight since I have been on HRT. I was trying to lose weight before my last surgery, but after I started the patch, I have lost another 14 pounds. Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Re: i need answers plz help

I had no bladder issues at all once the cather (oppsie) was removed on day 2. It took a few hours for me to try. The nurse was great! She said we'll try all the pregnant lady tricks to help you pee: running water in the bathroom, putting my fingers in a cup of water, and filling a spray bottle with water and snorfleing my while I sat on the toilet. You really do loose all your "shyness about being naked or revealed to other women".

As for my bowels, thats a different story. I was told to chew gum, as it helps to get the gasses moving. I was given magalox on day 4 and nothing. I was given a supposatory and a medicine cup of a lemony gel and I went within 1 hour. It was a loose drippy (sorry TMI) but no pain. I went fine the next few days. Since I've been home I've had pain before I have a BM .... but 2 weeks later it's starting to settle!

Sex life.....not there yet....I was told my romantic life could resume after 5 weeks .
