3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

Hey ladies... let me start by sending my deepest sympathies to those who feel loss and grief right now... this site has helped me so much in such a short amount of time, it is wonderful knowing so many others can empathize and lend support.
I'm 27 years old, 3 days post-op after my glorious davinci surgery.
I never would have guessed that I'd feel this good. My tummy is swollen and tender, tons of gas, and a sore neck from sleeping are my only complaints!
I feel bad for gloating... and I promise it isn't the drugs. : ) I've been taking one little 5mg percocet maybe three times a day since they let me out.

My main concern is: Am I going to feel good for a while, then suddenly feel like I got hit by a Mack truck? Regardless of how good I feel, I haven't been pushing myself... pretty much just lay in bed or on the couch, get up a million times a day to let out all this water I'm drinking, and walk out on the porch for some fresh air a few times a day.
Is it really possible that I might make it through this whole recovery without feeling like doggy doo??
Again... thanks for all the support and the answers to so many embarrassing questions!! (Had my first BM today... after freaking out for a day or two about blockage til I found this site).

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

Apayne, I'm happy for you that your recovery is going so well so far! I too felt like a new woman almost immediately after they let me go home. I'm 13 days post op, and I can tell you I have felt what you have. I call it hitting my wall. I'll be fine one minute, then suddenly that convoy of Mack truck roll over me. I think it's just our body's way of say,..SLOW DOWN. I didn't think I was doing too much either, until I got the disapproving look from my mother followed by a lecture. Even if I'm not doing too much, sometimes those semi's still drive by. Again,..I think it's my body sayin' "Uhm, excuse me, we're going to shut down all other functions so we can heal now"
I hope you continue a speedy and uneventful recovery

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

Yay - glad to hear it! You're feeling good AND taking it easy - good job!! it's easy to do too much, but keep reminding yourself you had major surgery despite feeling so good.
I also expected it to be worse, and was pleasantly surprised at how little pain I had. I didn't take any pain meds after the first night I got home b/c I didn't like how they made me feel - just tylenol and advil alternating for about a week. I just didn't need the narcotics - and like you, felt kinda guilty about it.
The tiredness was what got to me - I'd be fine, doing a little here and there, than all of the sudden I felt like I HAD to sit/lie down. That was my "Mack truck" moment - I have had no other complications really. A little twinging/pinching last week, and a bigger-than-usual belly, but no pain.
Here's hoping your recovery continues on this smooth path!! Take care!

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

One of the biggest risks of the daVinci procedure is that you're likely to do too much too soon. Don't underestimate what the percocet does. Without it, you may be more aware of discomfort. That's nature's way of protecting you.

I had very little pain and felt a lot better than I had prior to surgery. I didn't take the percocet, just ibuprofen. I was very careful not to lift more than 5-10 pounds for a long time. Walking too far or too fast caused a bit of pain in my low back or vaginal twinges, so I'd back way off. I worked from home after 2 weeks, but that was really too soon. I was dead tired. It took about 10 months to feel completely normal, but I assume that my age was also a factor for that.

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

I apologize for not reading all of the posts,
I also felt really great after getting home.
TAH.
I couldn't sit still, I was bending stooping, everything but lifting heavy weight.
I couldn't sleep, Finally had to 'knock' myself out, with Clonazepam.
Woke up, felt yuck.
went back to being active.
Not sure if this is normal, I notice I feel a bit irritable. and will also burst into laughing fits.
Get the Net.

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

Just b/c you feel great, DON'T OVER DUE IT.
I wasn't thinking (b/c i was feeling GREAT) and was bending over yesterday and now I'm paying for it today. And to add insult to injury, I turned on my right side (cause I'm a side sleeper) and I've been sick to my stomach since 5:30 a.m.
I think it's going to be a painkiller day. :<

"pretty much just lay in bed or on the couch, get up a million times a day to let out all this water I'm drinking, and walk out on the porch for some fresh air a few times a day."

LOL this was me up until yesterday. LOL Take it easy though.

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

Wonderful that you feel so well. Walking, even from room to to room, sunshine and tons of water are how I lived in the early recovery stages. And yes, I too felt way better after surgery than before. Much better than I had thought I would. There will be ups & downs over the next several weeks of recovery. Great one day (or 1 hour) then poo the next.
Listen to your body, it's easy to overdo when you feel so good!

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

I feel the same way! I'm day 4 posy DVH. Yesterday I went to the store for some groceries, and much needed escape(feeling trapped already). Almost through and I broke out in a cold sweat, got dizzy and had to sit for a few in the pharmacy area. Realized I'm not as back to normal as I thought! Take it easy and enjoy! I'm about to enjoy pancakes my wonderful 12 yr old daughter just made!(avoiding the kitchen-dont want to see the mess!)

Re: 3 days post-op.... FEEL GREAT! Am i ok?

apayne, I also got along well after surgery. (And I'm a lot older than you!) Never took narcotics for pain, only ibuprofen and tylenol. Never had the "hit by a truck" feeling. I did get tired but tried to be careful and not overdo. Difficult because I had to make arrangements for my mother's funeral the week after my surgery, but some things just have go on the back burner. Went out walking a bit at a time, gradually increasing. I'm eight weeks post op now. Hope your recovery remains uneventful and quick.
