Question about meds..

I read in another thread that you aren't supposed to take Motrin two weeks prior to your surgery. My doc didn't mention this, I don't see him until next Monday, three days before the LAVH.

I had a cough all last week and I was hoping to just ride it out but it's getting worse. I'm afraid it's bronchitis. I know I can't have the surgery if I still cough this way. Besides Motrin, is there any other meds I am not supposed to take? Thanks

Re: Question about meds..

At my preop my dr gave me a list of don'ts...and I checked it many times! I think the only thing you can take is tylenol...but for your dr office to check. Would hate to get your surgery cancelled cause you took something you were not supposed to! Pre op is stressful enough!!

Re: Question about meds..

Avoid anything containing Aspirin. Also avoid NSAIDS (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve). These medications can increase your risk of bleeding as they thin your blood. Also, avoid taking MAOI's. Be sure to check with your doctor if you take any medications on a regular basis. Most doctors want you to take blood pressure meds and/or respiratory medications before you go in for surgery. Good luck and be sure to let us know how it goes!
