Surgery 4/3/12

Ok, so I have decided that I'm done and want it all to go. I had surgery 12/27/11 that removed my left ovary and had a biopsy of my uterus and a D&C to remove a poylp. After the surgery my gyno told me that I had severe endo and that we could try several treatments to stop my periods. I went with the depo and it only worked for 2 mo.

I have a pre-op appointment on 3/28/12 to tell him: A) if I want to keep my cervix and B) if I want to keep my ovary.

I have had problems since starting my period at 13 with excessive bleeding and migrains from hormones, so I really do not want to keep the ovary or go on HRT. I know this for sure.

I am iffy on the cervix part though. I don't want mini periods or the possibility of more endometrial cells forming. I've had one cervical cancer scare when a pap came back abnormal and teh OB stated I had stage 1 pre cervical cancer, however all paps since have been ok. Right now sex is painful kinda like hitting bottom, so I'm hoping that with the cervix being gone this will not be an issue anymore.

So I guess I have decided to have it taken too, but am just a lil scared about what its going to be like after. I have a very active sex life even with the pain and I don't want it to change because of the surgery.

Would appreciate any and all comments those of you who have had everything removed are willing to share...the good, bad and the ugly.....

Re: Surgery 4/3/12

I'm sorry to hear of your continued troubles.... I had endo too and had everything removed about 4 weeks ago. I can't go on any kind of HRT because it feeds the endo, so am dealing with the surgical menopause. Nothing happened right away, but eventually I got some hot flashes and that's been it. So far! The dr. did remove the cervix, too, because of pre-cancerous cells there, but I won't be able to answer any sex questions for you, sorry!
Good luck to you & will be thinking of you!!

Hi Broken

to HysterSisters!

Is your doctor specialized in endo? From other posts I have read from other women who have had endo, it is important that they be specialized in removal of endo cells. Hopefully this is the case.

Regarding sex after a total hysterectomy, everyone is different. Some say it is better, some say it is worse, some say it is about the same, and everywhere in between. For me, sex is different. My orgasms are not as intense (I miss the muscle contractions) but happen more frequently. Go figure. We have to use lubricant though, as that part has not worked since my surgery. That is really frustrating for me, but I am grateful there are products out there to help.

Good luck...

(((Hugs)))
