Re: Hyst Mar 28, really scared

I had some pain when I woke up, but not much. Just enough to realize they really did the surgery. I think it was a 4 for me. I was admitted for two nights they kept me pretty medicated through the first night. The second day they gave me two Tylenol 3 every four hours. That was enough to make me relatively comfortable. I remember one time she came to ask what my pain level was and I said 6. By the time she came back with my meds it was an 8.

My first night home, my DH set his alarm to go off every four hours through the night so I could take my meds. I found staying on top of the pain is the best way to do it, don't wait until it hurts.

We all have very different experiences and there are a lot of variables. What type of surgery we have, how long it takes, how the anesthesia affects us, the skill of our surgeon, and how we interpret pain are just a few.

Your pain will be well managed in the hospital. Ask your doctor what he plans to give you for pain management when you get home, as that is usually more of a challenge.

Re: Hyst Mar 28, really scared

Hi ladies. Yes i just want to add to all the ladies who are awaiting their surgeries to know its very normal to be cautious and concerned as this is our little special body parts and to make a decision to have them removed is not an easy one. Our hope and goal is that we will have a healthier, happy life after removing the little culprits that give us so much grief. I am 15 days in recovery and yes its very different. I was totally panicked before surgery and did silly things like searching it on the internet all the time which only added to my fears. But when i finally stopped the searching on internet and starting praying and trusting God and having my pastor and friends pray for me, i finally had such peace the night before my surgery and in the morning of the surgery i believe the Lord gave me His unsurpassed peace cuz i had such unbelievable peace that i know can only come from His love, mercy and compassion. Prayer and Trust in the Lord and He will answer your prayers, i believe this with all my heart.

Carlene - "going under and having kids" is what is making me crazy right now too! I am scheduled for the 27th. I hope everything went well for you today & you're recovering well.

Re: Hyst Mar 28, really scared

I' Had been living with endomytriosis since my early 20's also, now aged 43 and 4 weeks post op, I'm happy to have had everything removed and my bladder fixed up. On HRT, and haven't felt better in a long while. NO more spotting, months of bleeding, pain in other parts of body, giant ovarian cyts, no more Mirena, BC pills, no more painful sex! Of course, after the last trip to ER in Jan. 12, I knew the time was right for me. Don't be scared, whatever you decide, just do it when its right for you The recovery is a long process, but there are steps you can take ahead of your surgery and some really good suggestions online and especially on this site.
