Pre-Op Day, Tuesday, March 20th

Welcome spring!

I've been talking to my body to prepare it for the onslaught of violence and change it's going to experience - encouraging it to be strong and resilient. I'm hopeful the surgery will go without a hitch, but know that complications happen.

Tomorrow morning I will be having a sacrocolpopexy (so HARD to pronounce!) using the Da Vinci lapropscopic 3D system. They will remove my uterus, but not my cervix. My cervix will then be hitched to my sacrum with a mesh material in order to return it to its original elevation. They will also be installing a Tension Free TransVaginal Tape to hold up my urethra to prevent any stress incontinence that may be the result of moving all this equipment around.

Today I am on an all liquid diet, but went to work and taught three classes this morning - I hate to be away from the kids any more than I have to! Then, I came home, took the dog for a nice long walk and appreciated my body being able to move, knowing that in the next few days movement will not be so free and easy.

At 2:30 I downed 10 ounces of magnesium citrate to clean out my bowels. Nothing has moved yet, but another dose of magnesium citrate (lemon flavor from Target - not too terrible tasting. Actually tolerable!) is due at 5:30.

Sitting in the sun room enjoying the sun's tentacles!

I have a much too long list of things to read and view over the next two weeks. We'll see how much I'll get to check off!

I also bought some warm up pants and yoga pants to have some comfy togs to wear during recovery. We borrowed the neighbors recliner, which our younger cat has claimed for the time being. But I think it will be a great place to rest after the surgery. I also purchased the HysterSisters Perfect Pocket Abdominal Binder which can hold cold or hot packs on your abdomen.

It's 5:30 - time for bottle #2 of magnesium citrate. Things have started moving. Chug-a-lug!

OK, by the end of bottle #2, the stuff is disgusting. But I downed it with lots of water because I want there to be no possibility of anything left inside me! Maybe I'll get on the scale and see how much difference it's made!

No fair - I only dropped a half pound?!? ***?

OK, it's beddy by time. Thanks to all who called to wish me well.
I'll be at the hospital by 6 am.
