Anyone with weird appetite changes? Anyone with weird appetite changes?

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

Shortly after my surgery, DH and I made some meals that we'd had before, but for whatever reason, they smelled and tasted funny. That's pretty much gone away, but the desire to have large infusions of chocolate hasn't. I couldn't get enough of it the first few weeks post-op. I think the craving is related to sleep disturbances. Hot flashes and some residual pain are keeping me awake, so I'm pretty exhausted in the morning. A candy bar can a temporary lift to the energy level before the inevitable crash. I knew I couldn't eat chocolate forever without consequences, so I've swapped it for Nutella on whole grain toast. I get the energy lift and the taste of chocolate, but I don't crash as hard or as quickly.

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

3 weeks TAH post op.

My appetite has changed almost completely. I hardly eat or am hungry at all. When I do eat, I eat the smallest portions than ever before. Someone cracked the joke "you sure you got a TAH and not your stomach stapled". hehe.

I eat differently too. I don't want the same as I used to eat, but I also have been craving sour cream and onion chips. My butt is going to get huge if this keeps up.

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

My hubby thinks I'm nuts with the smell and taste thing. The taste thing has mostly resolved itself, but my chocolate addiction is gone. I also have a micro appetite and have lost just over 35lbs since my hyster six months ago and I really crave healthy things now. I have no complaints. The smell thing, hypersensitive still. Who knew?

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

Thanks everybody for your comments! Always nice to know I'm not nuts. I hope the lessened appetite persists--I need to lose some weight!

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

I quit smoking (switched to e-cigs) while in hospital, and after I got out what I wanted to eat was COMPLETELY different. Prior, all I wanted was carbs - lots of them, and preferably in the form of bread, cookies, cake and pasta. And cream. And butter. For the most part, since the 6th I have eaten little except fresh fruit and veggies, and VERY rare beef. The rest of it just doesn't sound good at all, even alcohol and I was a daily drinker due to the back pain. So far I've lost 15 pounds.

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

I have been noticing changes in my sense of taste as well. Things I've "always" had to drink (Coca-Cola and sweet tea) suddenly taste TERRIBLE. I've been drinking much more water also. Some foods taste different as well, but I notice it more with beverages.

I didn't have this happen after my first surgery. Wondering what (if any) role the ovaries have in all of this!

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

I am 15 days post op and I too have crazy cravings. Before surgery didn't like the taste or texture of bananas but now I absolutely can't get enough of them!!! And love fried onions and peppers!!! Omg!!! Everything else that I used to love including chocolate just doesn't taste the same. So glad to know I am not alone in this and that I ain't crazy.

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

Mine has been cheese. I love cheese on everything. But after surgery cheeseburgers are awful. I have to peel the cheese off my burger.

Re: Anyone with weird appetite changes?

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering the same thing.

I haven't noticed any change in anything i eat or drink(yet). My problem is i have always been a big eater, now i eat less than half of what i did before. I know this is a good thing and i do hope it says but its aggravating.
